The Labour beans are back! From left to right they are: Liz Kendall, Andy Burnham, Yvette Cooper and Jeremy Corbean Corbyn. If you've been reading Cloud Potato's posts you'll know that the last is a dangerous socialist that will destroy everything we hold dear! Except he's clearly totally unelectable so I don't know why we're making such a big deal out of this.

This was a good week for Labour washing their dirty laundry in public, with a coup threatened against Corbyn if he became leader, 48 MPs (including Corbyn) defying interim leader Harriet Harman's orders to abstain from voting against a Conservative welfare bill and Tony Blair sticking his oar in.

I did some digging in the Bell archives and found that he's drawn Blair with scary staring eyes pretty much since he became Labour leader in the early 90s:

Over time the eyes became more and more lopsided, with Blair frequently becoming fully monocular.

I also found that Bell's been representing the Labour party as baked beans for over fifteen years. As near as I can tell the origin of it was literally "two things happened": the Labour party and Heinz beans celebrated their centenaries at around the same time:

The Senate has to ratify agreements with a supermajority to make them formal treaties. In practice binding treaties are made all the time with executive authority, which congress can reject through normal processes, but the rejection requires a veto proof majority.

I am honestly shocked that Kirschen used the exact phrasing "settler terrorists murder an Arab baby" as well as the fact that he admits this was a bad thing

One death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic. Kirschen doesn't think it's a bad thing when the IDF clears an Arab settlement because he believes that land belongs to the Jews by right and the Arabs only die because they resist, and when the IDF kill Arab civilians in reprisal attacks it's the fault of the Arab terrorists who are hiding behind their own people. But I can easily see him recognising that when Israeli civilians murder Arab civilians it's wrong, because the Israelis are not the legitimate authority and the Arabs aren't fighting. I'm surprised only that he used the word "terrorist".

To expand this a little bit. The president can make any kind of executive agreement he likes, whether he can implement the agreement depends on the details of what the agreement actually does.

If the agreement covers issues of exclusive executive authority, the President can make whatever agreement he likes and Congress can't do poo poo (directly, they could defund the executive branch or impeach the President). As a matter of Constitutional law, Congress has no say in the President's exercise of purely executive responsibilities. In reality, however, there aren't a lot of areas of exclusive executive authority outside of serving as Commander in Chief.

More likely, and as is the case here, the agreement will cover areas of joint authority between the President and Congress. In those areas, so long as the President isn't acting contrary to existing law, he can do basically what he wants. For example, some sanctions have been placed on Iran by Executive Order. The President can freely lift those sanctions. Other sanctions are in place by law, passed by Congress, and the President can't do anything about those sanctions without Congress agreeing. If Congress doesn't like the President's actions in an area of joint responsibility, and it hasn't already passed a law that prevents the action, then it can pass a law reversing or prohibiting the President's action (for example, Congress could pass Executive Order sanctions into law). But that has to go through normal channels, including overcoming a Presidential veto.

There are also some areas of exclusive Congressional authority, and in those areas, the President can't do anything without Congressional approval, which means either ratifying the treaty or (in some cases) just passing a law.

Are there figures to support that about 1/3rd of women have an abortion? It's not surprising or bad just something I didn't know. As far as any fertile woman goes, the figure I was taught is that almost half of fertilizations end in "spontaneous abortion," commonly known as a miscarriage, often before the would-be mother even knows of it. A particularly heavy flow could be a zygote heading to early retirement. Some eggs are fertilized and fail to implant, some gestate for a while but something like Rh factor kills it, and so on.

Before abortion was made legal it was not unheard of for the police to interrogate a grieving woman that wanted to have a child but had a miscarriage. It's an abhorrent reality that the pro "life" crowd wants.

Having an Evil Carnist call her a "brat[wurst]" is the most clever thing she has done and the author doesn't even know this. I get it, eating veggies is better than eating sentient creatures. Factory farms are charnel horror houses, not only is the quality of meat produced really bad, they are disease vectors and it's just plain cruel to abuse animals like that. But, how it's done in the animal kingdom involves: choking, clawing, mutilating, eating offspring, and even clamping down a prey animal while a pack-mate devours the still-living animal from rear end in a top hat-first. That doesn't compare to a well fed, sheltered animal that dies in a millisecond from a boltgun to the head. Most people that ranch and even those that slaughter animals care a great deal about the welfare of the animal, the bloodthirsty savage trope is inaccurate and unfair. The tribes that apologized to a hunted animal and asked forgiveness were just bloodmouth evil monsters, heh.

Maybe, soon, the same stuff can be grown in vats with no brain or sentience involved at a low economic and environmental cost and this extremism can be relegated to the past. About the same time that Sly gets pulled out of cryo sleep and all restaurants are scifi Taco Bell.

I want that unit to be bigger, a 10 SEER unit from the 80's, at least twice the tonnage for a small house. I want to believe the frost on the condenser was purposely done to show how the unit is malfunctioning and inefficient.

Is there some way to get paid to educate gullible people into understanding that they are being told lies by the television?

Abortion stops this† from continuing to develop:

Never, in the history of the universe, has abortion yanked this†† out of a pregnant woman and killed it:

†Blastocyst. ††Baby.

United States: In 2003, from data collected in those areas that sufficiently reported gestational age, it was found that 6.2% of abortions were conducted between 13 and 15 weeks, 4.2% between 16 and 20 weeks, and 1.4% at or after 21 weeks.

So, 1.4% of abortions are after, approximately, the four month mark. An even tinier fraction is done when something resembling a baby is pulled out and it is always, without exception, (as far as I know) done to prevent the mother from being killed by the pregnancy. There is absolutely nothing going on with properly conducted medical abortions, there is everything wrong with trying to force women that need a medical procedure to get black market abortions. How is it that knowing and accepting the moral conclusion of this puts a person in a high percentile of intelligence in the United States?
