Men in Greece used to get naked while competing in the Ancient Olympics, although some of them wore a kynodesme to cover their dick...or maybe it was kinky.

More likely to prevent your dingle dangle from getting grasped and tugged on real hard by a wrestling opponent who isn't afraid to play dirty. Hell, even modern high school wrestling has moves that are just a step removed from dick tugging. EDIT:

Not to detract from the male nipple milk talk, but I'm still on the crime show derail. Has there ever been a crime show that has done a good episode on video games or tabletop games without sensationalising it? The closest I can think of is Luther series 2 and that still had a man killing people to earn points in his larp murder spree.

Oh this is fascinating already. I always wondered as a child why a show I loved went to hell (ditto on the addition of random snot-nosed brat to Ninja Turtles). Who were these consulting firms? Where did they come from? How did they gain influence? How long did it take people to understand that not every kind of story benefits from the addition of kid sidekicks? Here are the three questions I had while watching that review: 1) Who the heck ran Q5, a bunch of 1950's Southern Baptists teamed up with the Comics Code Authority? 2) Why does Dave Coulier's impression of Bill Murray sound more like the groundskeeper from Caddyshack than Venkman? 3) In "Janeane, You've Changed," how did JMS become "Michael J. Straczynski"? **Edit** Sorry, here's a fourth one: 4) Why does Prof. Dweeb look like he's drawn by Gary Larson?

Jesus christ, those consulting stories. "Sure, your show is doing really really well, but on the other hand these other people have sweeping claims with zero evidence to back them up... Hmm, this is a toughie..." You'd think the very first time the words "No, we haven't polled any children..." came up in meetings it'd be out the door, see ya, but no. The network continued to side with this random consulting company even to the loss of one of the show's main producers. What the hell.

My guess for #2 is that the Coullier could do Carl Spackler, but regular Bill Murray not as much. #3, no idea, but it might be what he was being credited as at that time. As far as #4, now I wish there was a Far Side cartoon.

dijon du jour posted:Jesus christ, those consulting stories. You'd think. If the goal was to make a good show. Would it make sense if the goal was any or all of the following: 1) Funnel money to your buddies who run a consulting firm? 2) Torpedo a show that a previous executive was in charge of, so it looks like he was bad, and you are good? 2a) Or to funnel the budget from that show off to a pet project? 3) Now that there's a huge audience, sell a bunch of toys to them, even at the expense of the quality of the show? 4) Make a highly visible "action plan" of some sorts, and attach your name to it. Then when the show's numbers rise (even slightly) in the next quarter-- you point to your "action plan" and say "SEE SEE I raised the show's ratings by 0.5%, I've earned my million dollar bonus". Even though the show's numbers would have risen anyways, just based on word of mouth-- but shut the gently caress up, you implemented an ACTION PLAN. Cash out your bonus and parachute out before the show goes down in flames. Run fast and far with your short term gains. 4a) And if for some reason the numbers go down instead of up, you can blame it on the show's team who weren't "team players" and didn't follow your executive decision, and thus have cost the network millions and should all be fired? Or all of the above? Because that's how the executive/administrative layers of networks work. Making a good show is secondary to everything else. At least JMS went on to never have a really good show of his completely torpedofucked by network executives...

I agree, it appears to be incredible well researched and gives a great inside how the comic book industry looked before 90s and how many things that seem so integral to it are actually really new. I always find it really fascinating how fluid things you considered to be the norm actually are. GoodBadFlicks recently reviewed the Spawn movie and also started out with a bit of backstory of McFarlane. Hearing a pretty neutral to positive taker on the foundation of Image was actually kinda weird.

Speaking of the end of The Fantastic Four video... Has anyone ever compiled a list of all the "lost" episodes? The ones that were taken down for one reason or another? What their current status is? Off the top of my head Nostalgia Chick - Dune - Taken down after fan backlash, never put back up Brows Held High - What Is It? - Legal threat from whatshisface who made it. Ironically, Snail Kyle lives on Brows Held High - The Girlfriend - Taken down by Kyle, though there's a commentary video on it instead Obscurus Lupa Presents - Max Hell: Frog Warrior - Re-edited to include no footage, and only MSPaints The Cinema Snob - Grizzly 2 - I think it's back up, but I don't know if it's a repost or Brad-official Any others of note?

From what I remember, Lindsay was right to criticize that movie because it's awful. It was when she started accusing the book of the same sins that it became kinda clear that she hadn't read it.

I really like the Dune movie but I certainly wouldn't call it good. It was a case of it being less than the sum of its parts. I found the performances and everything visually in that film to be very compelling to watch. But the story just wasn't there and wasn't focused enough for a film. Frankly it would be incredibly hard to put that novel to film or even a series (scifi tried this and failed miserably). There's just a lot to it. The book is a masterpiece, though. It's a hard read but well worth it.
