Why do many of the stations appear to be literally a minute's walk from each other?

Not everyone walks particularly quickly, winter in Chicago is awful, and I suspect there's some logistic value in having more stations.

Miami MetroMover stations are pretty close to each other on the main loop too.

In the red and blue lines, the tunnel under the loop is basically one continuous station, with walls to separate it into the 4 or 5 actual stations.

They were built in like in 1890, before cars and with people wearing really dumb clothes. Also as other people pointed out, winters suck so less walking is good. Also that area is incredibly dense with jobs, so all of those stations fill up more than you would expect, just like all the densely packed stations in Manhattan/London etc.

All that said, they are actually combining and closing a few of the stations right now.

MY LIFE FOR YOU!
Just wondering, are there any good railroad podcasts out there, preferably ones that talk about the history of certain railroads or anything like that? I've been looking and I was surprised that there didn't seem to really be anything out there.

No clue about podcasts but I just caught an episode of Dan Snow's History of Railways on tv, very good show, great presentation. This episode (episod 2 of 3) talked about the establishment of railways in Britain and how they changed the cities and lifestyles of the citizens then the expansion into Canada, which then set off a 5 year recession as the British banks collapsed due to the cost of the grand trunk railway.

What happened to metrolink 645? It looks banged up along with a train car. They're on a rail spur just outside Moorpark, California.

I do remember seeing that where it was originally posted, and it had a little background information. The guy had just gotten that face shield within the previous few days, and it saved his face. He only ended up with a bloody lip.

Of course not. Testimony from the defendants and witnesses clearly proves that their horse was indeed outside at the time.
