FIRST TIME posted:Imagine if you will a bank shuts down but leaves a pile of money in the vault. This pile of money is radioactive and makes anyone who comes in contact with it horribly sick. Those who are in charge of the bank and responsible for its contents know the danger the money poses but they take their sweet time in dealing with properly disposing of it. Scavengers break into the poorly secured building looking for anything valuable to loot. They find the money and don't know that it's dangerous so they spend it, spreading sickness into the local community. This is literally a TNG plot Wikipedia posted:Data is sent to a pre-Industrial planet to recover the radioactive remains of a deep-space probe that crashed on the planet. However, Data is injured during the recovery, and without memory of who he is or his mission, walks into a village carrying the case of radioactive parts. Garvin, the village magistrate, and his daughter Gia, take Data to their healer, Talur, who determines he must be an "ice man;" Gia names Data "Jayden." Garvin discovers the probe's fragments, unaware of their hazard, and attempts to sell them to make a profit. As the village folk begin to wear the fragments as jewelry, they start to succumb to radiation poisoning, though Talur is unfamiliar with the symptoms.

Have you guys ever heard of the USS Forestal? Known affectionately by sailors as the USS ForestFire because it wouldn't stop bursting into flames. in 1967 there was an incident in Vietnam involving an ordnance malfunction that killed like 134 people. Also John McCain was there, so there is a great conspiracy theory that he was such an awful pilot that it was somehow his fault. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6g6l_gjxXM4

Which is especially ironic because it's the one plane that got wrecked under him that definitely *wasn't* his fault (electrical malfunction in another plane fired a rocket, which struck a plane, which caught fire, which caused one of its bombs to explode, which destroyed McCain's plane).

These are the same people that film decrepit sidewalks in st.petersburg and then broadcast that it's footage taken in Europe. Literally no lie is too low, no claim bold enough for the extent of the propaganda machine. What bothers me most is that like ISIS, mentally ill people and edgy youngsters buy into the Kremlin's poo poo and parrot their opinions. Because obviously the enemy of my enemy (society) is a totally good and cool guy.

Yeah, the Russians are really pissed off about the MH17 thing. They are running a campaign to say that the investigation wasn't done properly. And they used some stupid excuse to implement annoying extra border controls for Dutch flower imports. Aaaanyway, that comment seems to be removed. Let's get back on topic here. So they started an independent investigation to what caused this collapse. They want to be thorough, so they'll expect it'll be several months before a report is published. People and companies involved in the case don't want to say anything about it until that time. Journalists then decided to interview some independent engineering experts, such as an engineering professor at some Dutch university. They seemed to agree that several mistakes were made: - This should never have been done with two floating cranes. When they did a similar thing at the same place a few years ago, one of the two cranes was on solid ground. This gives the crane operator much more control. Operations like this are never done with two floating cranes and this shouldn't have been an exception. - A year ago, a complete safety investigation was done by people hired by the city. They described the possibility of cranes falling over, and suggested those buildings should be evacuated for this procedure. This didn't happen, and at this point nobody knows if any recommendations from the safety report were followed. Now, the thing is that the construction and crane companies weren't just some backwater idiots. They're apparently well-known and they were trusted by the government for doing good work. So I don't know what happened this time. Maybe they got sloppy with safety procedures over the years.
