12 episodes, right? Maybe. I wonder if they'll get around to the farm at some point, assuming a second season. Based on how they handle Centorea, I can't even imagine the Minotaur girl. Or the censorship that will no doubt be involved, for that matter.

Right, a lot of catching up to do: Comparative anatomy effortpost 3: LARP horse. Firstly, let's get this out of the way: Bigger things have more nerves, and so need more brain to deal with them*. But I think we can hand-wave this by just saying that our one example of a centaur seems to be kind of clumsy**. Unlike Miia, whom we decided just had a very long tail, our horse girl very clearly has most of her torso duplicated. Biologically, this isn't as much of a problem as you might expect: animal embryos generally grow in their early stages by making loads of the same thing, before some genes (which I will call "hox genes" even though that's not quite right) tell them where they are in the body so they can specialise. (This is most obvious in arthropods, but vertebrate spines are a bit of a giveaway too) It's thus pretty easy to get duplicates of pretty much anything by dicking around with the expression of these genes (most natural mutations that do this would be pretty disastrous, which is why you don't get six-legged or two-hearted mammals in nature). Once you have two torsos, it's again fairly strightforward, genetically at least, to start making them different - she'd need a lot of duplicated genes, but that happens a lot anyway. The sensible thing to do would be to overdevelop some organs in one torso, at the expense of those in the other. Given how her spine looks, the top part shouldn't be too heavy [insert boob joke here***]; I'd guess the "human" part contains huge lungs (no-use having lungs that don't join up with the mouth) and that most of the guts, liver and other bulky things are in the "horse" part (though the vestigial guts in the human part probably still help digest plant matter more easily). There could well be two hearts, but the lower one is likely much larger; things like kidneys that have to join up to one end or the other will obviously be vestigial or absent in the "wrong" torso. In all, not something likely to evolve naturally, but nothing strange needs to be going on with her biology. She even looks like she would be able to survive reasonably well in an appropriately flat environment. Waifu plausibility rating: 9/10. A naturally occurring member of a species that is the work of a perfectly sensible, modern, mad scientist. *Not proportionally more, brain mass goes something like (body mass)^(3/4) for what are very good mathematical reasons we won't get into here. Blood vessels and other piping/wiring things do the same. ** This should also apply to Miia and the spider girl, but we hardly ever see Miia move... *** Seriously, she'd look so much better with merely large ones, rather than ludicrous ones.
