Do you want the absolute god honest awful truthful answer? The first couple of orgasms after my snip felt weird. They just weren't right. A bit later? Exactly the same as before in every way, except with less stress and worrying. While your junk is still only mostly healed though, orgasms are weird. Either put up with a few odd ones or just wait a bit longer before getting back on the horse, so to speak.

No it's definitely right. Dude didn't say he was having unprotected PIV intercourse right off the bat though. I don't recall anything weird about orgasms after the snip. There's some weird poo poo that can happen during recovery but once the doc says you're clean, it's pretty much party time. We've got a vasectomy thread somewhere in A/T.

I'm dating a girl right now and she's on birth control. She never misses a pill and is very adamant about staying on top of it. She says she's more worried about getting pregnant than I am. I always use the pull out method (I've tried different kind of condoms countless times and can't maintain an erection with them). She says that it would be fine to ejaculate in her and she's not worried about it. I've talked to a couple of friends and from their experiences they also back that statement up. You ejaculating inside while she's using birth control responsibly (which she is) comes with a way smaller risk of pregnancy than the pull-out method with no birth control.

To be specific, you're looking at a one or two in ten thousand chance of her getting pregnant if you exclusively use the pill over the course of a year. Realistically, the only way you'll appreciably decrease the chance is for her to get an iud & you to wear a condom every time.

In other words: yes, you can trust the pill. It's about as effective as it gets, short of IUDs or sterilization, and it's not even trailing those by any practical difference. Getting pregnant on average once every 1/(1-.92) = 12.5 years is a practical difference from getting pregnant once every 1/(1-.992) = 125 years, to me. That's the copper IUD, with hormonal it's 1000 years.

Unfortunately vasectomy wasn't included in the no-cost birth control mandate portion of the ACA, so unless you have really good insurance you'll probably have to meet your annual deductible before they'll cover it. If your partner has insurance she should be able to get pretty much anything 100% covered, when my wife got her IUD a few years ago our insurance covered pretty much everything but the ultrasound, IIRC we paid less than $200 out of pocket and the whole procedure was right around $2000.

Planned Parenthood says $0-1000. If you are a young dude (under 30) you are going to have a hell of a time convincing them to do a vasectomy. An IUD for your lady friend is another option. Like Geoj said it's relatively cheap (with insurance or up to $1000 from Planned Parenthood) and it's reversible in case she changers her mind and is willing to risk a pregnancy.

Also something to keep in mind, the IUD is once every 5 years, so even if you have to pay a fair amount of money up front, compare it to the copay on filling the pill prescription 60 times. Sucks if you just can't get the cash up front, but great if you can do it.

Thanks for the protips; Planned Parenthood is probably where I'll end up going, although I'll make insurance-related inquiries. Also, Geoj: I'm not covered under my lady's insurance. We have totally different and unrelated plans. IUDs were a considered option, but she's awfully worried about the possible side effects. She tends to have pseudo-menstruation from unrelated medicines, and the whole idea of an IUD freaks her out a little anyways. The Implanon thingie sounded like a good option, though.

Look into state sponsored family planning programs. I live in Oklahoma and was eligible for Sooner Care, since I was poo poo poor and didn't have insurance. It paid for the procedure entirely. This was also pre Obamacare so I don't know if this is more or less common now. I was 26 or 27 and did not get any trouble from the doctor either. Part of the pushback against younger dudes getting vasectomied might be that the younger you are, up to about 25, increases the risk of the procedure reversing itself. There are a lot of redundancies you can do to make sure the tubes stay severed though so ask your doctor about that stuff.

Yes, her plan (unless she's still somehow on a grandfathered plan from before 2012) will cover at no out of pocket cost any FDA approved contraceptive device or procedure for her. Read more here. (e: that's technically for plans on state and federal-run exchanges but the same rules apply to private plans as well.) I'm not trying to talk you out of a vasectomy but from an economic standpoint it makes more sense for her to get on long-term birth control, or if she can find a doctor willing to do it, sterilization.
