Liberty university invited a man to speak who openly identifies himself as a socialist. What more do you want? Do they need to set up a gallows on the lawn and hang their Dean before it will be acceptable for Bernie to accept their invitation?

RE: Election day holiday

I would actually benefit from this. I was not able to vote in the 2012 and 2014 elections because my job does not allow more than an unpaid hour to go to the polls. My job is about 30 minutes away, so if there was any line whatsoever and I had been late coming back, I would have received some disciplinary action. When it comes down to it, I need the job and the paid hour more right now than I need the vote. It sounds dumb as poo poo, but it's the case of immediate needs.

If we can pass one we can probably pass two, to be honest. If we can in fact only pass one, we might not even know for sure which one so its safer to do both. And finally, by trying to pass two, we can "compromise", drop one of them, and still make progress.

Strategically putting forward only the most passable legislation before it even comes up for a vote is how we got stuck with the watered down version of the ACA that we ended up with.

Mandatory early voting windows and such sounds to me like it would be the harder one to get passed than a federal holiday private businesses don't even have to recognize. Maybe I'm wrong about that though.

No one insulted you over it. The point is that making it a national holiday accomplishes nothing for the vast majority of the people who are already time-limited preventing them from going to the polls, because their jobs will also make them work over holidays. Meanwhile early voting is a proven strategy that works so well that Republicans actively attempt to claw back against it when possible.

Kylra posted:

Early voting is harder to pass because it would actually be a major benefit to all sorts of people. A election day holiday is much easier to pass because it doesn't actually help most of the people who are being prevented from voting.

There is no one to convert at Liberty University. Everyone's either true believers, or people who, after being forced to be around the true believers, no longer wants anything to do with their ideals but is forbidden from acting on it because the school will punish them for doing so.

And it's not like you can just carry your credits over to a normal college either.

It's not about winning, it's about proving we're better than everyone else. Conservatives? gently caress em. Liberals who aren't as liberal as us? gently caress em' too. If we're the ones in charge it might mean accepting responsibility for how lovely things are and its much easier to bitch about things going to pot than it is to put the work into making a difference. And that's why Bernie Sanders should just tell liberty university to gently caress off, and that's also why you shouldn't hold your nose if Bernie doesn't win his primary. 100% ideological purity, or we will let this country burn to the ground around us. :smug: 2016
