Most people who go to Liberty really dont give a poo poo about religion and would have 0 opinion on Liberty university's theology other than "a lot of their rules are annoying." A ton of people go there because it has open admissions and is dirt cheap for instate tuition, especially for a private college, especially locals. They also have a very expansive online education system, I work at a labor union in Maryland and a lady in our accounting department was taking classes there online.

Liberty also employs a great deal of Lynchburg locals, and their children are allowed to go there free of charge.

I used to party with Liberty students (who lived off campus) when I was attending a community college in Lynchburg, they still drink/smoke weed/have sex, despite what the 'rules' say, and nearly all of them would describe themselves as 'Christian,' but are certainly not 'true believers' in the sense that they really give a poo poo what Jerry Falwell Jr. thinks.

And yes you can definitely transfer credits from Liberty, it is regionally accredited.

Fishmech is getting confused with Patrick Henry College, I think, which actually is what he thinks Liberty is. It was notorious for being a feeder into lower-level Bush administration positions and is not accredited by anyone except the Transnational Association of Christian Colleges and Schools.

It is also located in my hometown and I had some pretty good conversations with students there when I canvassed for Obama in 2008. Most of the ones I talked to were Ron Paul fans, interestingly enough.

You're just reinforcing it. Either you're going there because you have to, and don't agree with what they push, or you're a true believer.

Also I severely doubt the online education users are going to show up to rear end end of nowhere central VA to see the speech, so they're hardly relevant.

What aren't you getting about the fact that federal holidays don't equal days private companies have to let you off work?

Not that mandatory registration at 18 would fix this, but you DO have to re-register when you move to another state. Saying you only have to register once in your life seems disingenuous, because it assumes that you will never move.

Due to the "motor voter" act from the 90s though, re-registering to vote is real easy when you move, so long as you're changing your driver's license. Of course, people still neglect to do it even though it's just a checkmark to opt in. It should really be changed to something you'd have to opt-out from.

The part where it applies to federal employees and can be trivially extended to any private company which wants federal contracts. It's not as good as early voting or vote by mail, but it isn't toothless either.

Not everyone has a mailing address, so it's terribly unfair to the homeless. And what if the Patriarch/landlord/whoever forces everyone to vote a certain way?

I've actually heard that very disingenuous argument from a republican who swore he was making it out of compassion.

I had a friend who was a true believer in a very religious university with crazy rules. After two years of it, he saw all the negative consequences and went socially and economically liberal.

Turns out telling 19 year olds they can't gently caress unless married leads to bad decisions and maybe having a staunchly anti-gay and anti-dancing policy while also having a musical theater program leads to issues.

It's got as much tooth as a 9 month old though. lovely retail jobs and the like are rarely federal contractors and they tend to be the ones whose employees have the most trouble getting time out to vote.

Or we could just have early voting like sane people, and then you don't have to hope and pray that your boss deigns to let you off? It's not like it's some sort of foreign concept, it's already present in multiple states, and it works great.

This is nobody's argument here, are you having a stroke? The entire point of early voting is that it's far easier to do it in person if it's something you can do seven days a week for weeks or months in advance, instead of something you can do for about 8-9 hours on a single day (if your state's really lovely).

Give a credit to businesses whose employees HAVE voted. Businesses can submit the list of their employees and for every one that submitted a ballot, the business gets a credit. That would at least encourage SOME more voting.

If you're not willing to lick the boot, then really why are you in politics lol? Everything is a cycle of just getting stomped on so why do you want to lose to it over and over, just submit like me, I'm very intelligent.
Right now in the election cycle reminds of me of one sunny afternoon in September 2012 watching the Bowling Green Falcons take on the Florida Gators in Gainesville. Though Florida had come into the game as heavy favorites, Bowling Green had come out with an early 7-0 lead to end the first quarter. Everyone was so excited, and it was truly awesome to watch as the former mighty Gators got pummeled by an underdog MAC, and it looked like a truly great upset might have been in the making.

However, the initially bumbling Gators regained their footing. Though Bowling Green kept it close up to the fourth quarter, they were worn down by the Gators' superior athleticism and greater depth, and the thoroughly gassed Falcons were out of the game by the fourth quarter. The dream of a MAC team draining The Swamp had died. The world had righted itself, with the traditional power Florida handily on top and lowly Bowling Green grovelling below, just as everyone had predicted.

We are in the first quarter, dreaming of big Bernie Sanders and Donald Trump upsets, as is the right of every spectator to this election, but it's a four quarter game. The world will right itself again and we will have Hillary and an establishment Republican, almost certainly regardless of what happens tonight.
