Wowee, the New York is fairly inaccurate. At least when I land an HE shell, I can occasionally do 3k damage with a single shot. I nicked an Omaha with one shell and knocked out 2 guns, his rudder, AND his engine. Now if only CVs would stop sending everything they have at me (or stop existing)...

So then when everyone else's AA is nerfed in comparison to the top cruisers it's going to get really bad.

This is exactly how it works in world of tanks, the heavy slow tanks can't carry very well usually because unless you win your flank hard and fast you won't be able to help if anything goes wrong on another flank, but in the tier 10 medium tanks you can immediately respond whenever something starts to go wrong and get the game back on track. There are exceptions, since there are a few heavies with low ground pressure and decent speed but you still can't carry as hard as with a fast medium.

However, that was a Roon-class cruiser, which they've got at T9 The T7, T9 and T10 are almost certainly paper projects, with names made up by Wargaming. It makes it impossible to Google them. I imagine the tier 9 and 10 still have 8" range guns, but I have no evidence for that at all. I guess Yorck could be the M class, though it seems a bit weak for tier 7. Also while looking up German ships I noticed that the Admiral Hipper has about the same armor as the Furutaka.

Replay. So this match starts, I decide to hover around northwest looking for trouble with other destroyers. I manage to scrape a Nicholas up and destroy an Isokaze. The enemy team gets boxed in the north-ish region, with ships approaching from multiple sides. I spot the aircraft carriers on my side. Both of them, right there, just waiting to be taken. There were quite a few battleships around me though so while I did go for it, I didn't think I would make it very far. But the enemy team just lets me chase and hammer their carriers over and over again risk-free! I kill the Zuiho and start working on the Bogue, while his buddy Cleveland, which was right next to them, focuses a friendly Myogi of all things instead of me. So the Bogue dies, the Cleveland also goes down, enemy cap is secure, there's only a Wyoming left. There's two minutes and thirty seconds left on the clock, a Phoenix is capping, I ask him to stay on the cap or else we might lose by a draw. I get on the cap and notice the same Phoenix is shooting at the Wyoming, and ask him to stop since the Wyoming would not be able to see us in cap if he stopped shooting. Forty seconds left, the Phoenix is still shooting, but the Wyoming missed so whatever, we're still winning, but then the Phoenix, on his foolish quest to pepper a battleship at the end of the game with HE risking a loss, tunnel-visions right out of the cap. We draw. I was so loving salty. I would've played this match and then quit the game for the rest of the day on such a high note, but now I don't know if I should blame the Phoenix or this stupid game mode, or both. Now I'm having to drink gallons of water to try and contain the sodium chloride levels in my body. Just, gently caress normal game mode. gently caress it to hell and back.

I knew the Nazis couldn't design ships but I somehow never noticed they were quite that bad. The best thing is that the projected Graf Zeppelin specifications make the Hipper look like a well designed ship. edit: but really, what were the Nazis doing with all that extra displacement on all their ships? Did they carry absurd amounts of fuel and ammunition or something?

The standard game mode sucks. It's an infestation in many games: Mechwarrior:Online, Robocraftgame etc. all go for the 2 homecaps gamemode. For reasons... The same stupid draw poo poo in all games that use this game mode. Or both teams circle around the center and who's at the enemy cap first wins. Great game design.

James Garfield posted:edit: but really, what were the Nazis doing with all that extra displacement on all their ships? Did they carry absurd amounts of fuel and ammunition or something? There was a bit of that. They designed pretty much everything for long range convoy raiding because that was the only realistic strategic objective their navy was going to pull off. They were also late to the party on all-or-nothing armour and dual purpose secondaries so that's a lot of wasted displacement as well.

This is perhaps the best quick recap of why and how nazi ship design went sideways. Choice quote:quote:For example, the new battleships Scharnhorst and Gneisenau were found to be incapable of shooting their main guns in the autumn 1939. This could only be corrected after 22,000 yards (!) of useless electrical wires were removed and major modifications were made to the Fire Control circuits and mechanisms.

Finally ground through the South Carolina, and the Wyoming is a pretty good boat so far. Sure, it's slow and it's guns take half the match to traverse, but it's so satisfying when you citadel a ship with those huge shells and just watch their HP bar disappear. It also terrifies cruisers when you keep charging towards them instead of turning away when they start shelling you.

Welp, just had this shitter mouth off to me on Two Brothers for following the lemmingtrain (I started on the flank in my Nagato and was the first one to go down there.) while he kept his Mutsuki well behind the american BBs coming down the same way. Then he spent the match having angry arguments with everyone while running into the corner and hiding. Pretty sure he didn't launch a single torp the whole match and did nothing except ignore a torp spread he could see from half a minute away and eat one for ~95% of his healthbar because using the rudder at all is hard. Also, he told me that he had totally done more for the team than me.

Its also not really a bad ship, its just a different playstyle from the other US CAs up to that point. If you have the Aoba, you'll know what I mean. If you CV, you can also use the free xp to unlock whatever plane mod you want, so you don't have to grind the mod first with an inferior loadout, but in the US CVs the default loadout isn't bad for a long time. CVs make plenty of xp assuming you are running a strike loadout because they're OP as gently caress.

The stock Pensacola is rough but playable as long as you hang back (45 second turret traverse ).

What's the arming (minimum) range for torps? Is it the same for all torps? Pulled off a super ninja around-the-island surprise ambush on a carrier (knew where he was because i could see where his planes were) only to have my first spread not explode

Zo posted:What's the arming (minimum) range for torps? Is it the same for all torps? For ship mounted torpedoes, when you go into torpedo aiming mode, there should be green semicircles indicating your firing arc. They don't start immediately at your ship, though. Where the green arc starts, is when your torpedoes have armed. Firing and hitting something inside of that area will cause your torpedoes to hit to no effect.

Dispersion doesn't increase if your base range increases (unless it says so in the artillery tab, MAKE SURE TO CHECK!), so you'll be a bit more accurate at the same ranges as before, with the option of shooting further. This is arguably one of the more important things for a BB, due to their high dispersion.
