If my anecdotal expeience is worth anything (it's not), Hot Dog will win in battles. I'm to the last rank and despite having over 8 kills and 800 points in every match, I've lost over 80% of them (most of the wins were when I finally found a good team for a few matches).

I think you need to take a break, maybe for the rest of Splatfest. Your negativity is not helping Team Hot Dog.

I don't understand how some people are so ineffectual. Like, surely all these children must be playing Turf Wars most of the time anyway, right?

I bet a lot of people playing are literal children, so that'd kinda explain it. Its okay for children to be garbage at a game made for children

I love Splatoon. I really do. I don't want come across as someone who doesn't because it's an incredible game that I have tons of fun playing with friends-- which is in itself one of the biggest problems I have with Splatfest. Not being able to play with friends really drags things down for me, on top of the loss of stage rotation, music selection, and having far more connection issues during the event than not. Also for some reason I perform way, way worse during a Splatfest than outside of one. I played 16 matches today and lost 13 of them, and one of the wins didn't even count because the game disconnected as we transitioned to the results screen. I don't particularly care for or need sea snails, so winning and losing shouldn't be that important, but it is demoralizing to go on lengthy losing streaks like that. On top of all of that this is shaping up to be the third Splatfest in a row where I've been on the losing team, so everything kinda snowballs together into "you're not having fun also you're losing all the time, so what's the point?"

The nighttime stages are neat and I like how the ink looks at night. I like that there is new music, I just want more. I like the idea of the entire Splatoon community banding together into two teams. The event has a lot of potential. I wish I could enjoy Splatfest, but I just... don't.

For my sanity Splatfest play sessions are "20 points, then stop when my winstreak ends." Keeps losing streaks from driving me batty. Of course my last winstreak went 13+ games.

Sorry you're having a bad experience. I too feel frustrated when I get on a loosing streak and get disconnected a lot. If I find myself aggravated after a match I'll leave the Wii on, go get a coffee and read for a few minutes then play again after I'm in a calmer mindset. If I start a new match while in a bad mood then I play bad.

I'm having a 50-50 win-lose streak going on. I'm essentially dominating Arowana Mall with the .52 gal, but I'm having... some trouble with my team mates in Camp Triggerfish. I mean seriously, if my K/D last turn on that map was 17-3 and we still lost... Well, I don't know what more I could do.

Best squad I had this Splatfest was two nzaps, a .52 gal, and a roller. I think we were at 8-0 completely shutting down the enemy mallows at their spawn each time when I was disconnected in the lobby. Had a few good squads last night, but nothing near this level of teamwork. :kimchi:

The game rewards laggers by trusting their client when they say they got a kill even after the server knows they're already dead.

Someone in IRC told me the game has dedicated servers but everything I've seen from behaviour and the error messages suggests it uses a pretty permissive peer to peer model.

Edit: if it doesn't then it's garbage and they need to let laggers suffer like in the good old days

They lied, it's totally peer to peer.

This game is fun as hell and I like it, but it's easy to forget that when you're in the middle of a losing streak a mile wide. I need to stop taking this poo poo so seriously, at the end of the day I'm not getting anything super important, win or lose.
