In T2 why does the evil liquid metal Terminator tell Sarah to "call for John" when he could just replicate her and do it himself? Which he then does 2 minutes later? He could have offed her, taken her form and then lured John in.

The only real explanation comes from deleted scenes. In these the T-1000 has started to glitch out and can't control itself completely, specifically at the 6.30 mark in this video

http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x8mo8o_terminator-2-t-1000-glitches_shortfilms

Perhaps it realised it couldn't do it properly, so that's why it tried to get Sarah to call for John

I always told myself it was because he didn't have a good voice sample of her yet, and needed her to at least call out once so he could take over from there. Sometimes I even make myself believe it.

His mimic matrix was acting up and couldn't replicate her perfectly. Maybe he couldn't do her voice anymore as well.

The T1000 is (like Arnie's terminator) a learning machine - you can watch the progress of this throughout the film: at the start, a couple of shotgun blasts put him down for a while as he slowly melts back together but by the end he's getting cut in half lengthways and responding with kung-fu. He also learns (again like Arnie) to be more human as time goes on and so he's just being a dick because she annoyed him.

its because the liquid nitrogen hosed his poo poo all up so he can't morph his person or voice very well. This is why when its acting like Sarah later her feet morph into the floor grating. Don't play with Liquid Nitrogen if you are a liquid metal robot.

The 1st time the T1000 met Sarah was in the hallway of the mental institution, and she was at most screaming at the sight of the T800. It still holds up for it to tell Sarah to call to John so that it could mimic her voice. I guess he was still smart enough/had enough processing power to mimic her after hearing her just say "gently caress you."

(poo poo quality, but it's the only lines Sarah speaks to the T1000).

If I remember rightly it's after the T1000 stabbed her through the shoulder, maybe it wants her to scream with pain as a way to get John out because it can't emulate a pained shout.

I'm going to need to rewatch T2 now.

My irrationally hated part of T2 is the effects on the truck jump right at the end of the film, because when I made my friends watch it they pointed it out and said the film was poo poo because of it. It's still one of the best looking movies, gently caress you guys.

Are you talking about the goofy dive roll Arnold does after he jumps onto the hood of the 18 wheeler and magdumps a M16 into the T-1000's face? That's my favorite part of the entire Terminator series until the awkward bit at the end when the tanker rolls and Arnold does that weird looking Samus Aran morph ball thing. I'm pretty sure that he's rolling on his side and its just the camera angle that makes it look weird when he hits the ground. But yeah, that part does look pretty silly.

The cut malfunction scenes really do make that scene and the climax fit together a lot better, and it's too bad they cut them. T-1000 is all messed up so he can't make a convincing human anymore, and that's what prevents him from killing John in the end because John notices her feet welded to the mesh floor and doesn't go to her.

The theatrical version also cuts one of the best practical effects I've ever seen in a movie - operating on Arnold's head in the mirror by having Linda Hamilton working on a dummy in the foreground while her identical twin sister Leslie works on Arnold in the "reflection". I've always felt the theatrical cut is quite a bit inferior.

Watching it with the director's commentary is great because he cannot stop gushing at how lucky he was that she had a twin and how great they are in that scene. He's absolutely right, it's loving awesome.

A friend of mine just linked me this and its well done. The problem isn't with CG per-se but more that most Directors use CG as a crutch rather than a specific tool. They use it to fix poo poo in post that they can't be bothered to get right in the first place. As Mad Max shows the ideal is actually a good blending of traditional and CG effects.

They also make a good point about movies just being lovely overall and people blaming the CG. Indiana Jones and the crystal skull used a mix of CG and practical effects just like Mad Max, but it was a totally poo poo movie so everybody complained about the CG.

Yeah that scene rules, its one of the cooler practical effects shots in my opinion. I love to tell people how they pulled it off without CG :)

Leslie also plays Mommy Sarah in the playground scene and the T-1000/Sarah in the foundry. It's a nice trick if you can get it. An entire Buffy episode was inspired by Nicholas Brendon having an identical twin.

That only really happens the one time after Palmer gets found out. At that point, the Thing is tied down on the couch with two people pointing flamethrowers at it, and it's got nowhere to go. Flight isn't an option, so it goes with fight. The only other time something like that happens is when Norris does the chest-mouth thing; I chalk that up to the defibrillator, and the fact that Things probably don't like having large amounts of electricity poured into them (which was how they killed it in both the '50s movie and the original short story).

Man, now I want to watch that movie again for the billionth time.

If stuff like this bothers you just stop watching Hannibal now because absolutely nothing in that show makes sense. Serial killers apparently make up 95% of all crime but all the FBI has is 2 lab techs and a teacher? The serial killer death count in Baltimore alone had to reach into triple digits. Everyone lives in different states but all somehow hang out all the time. Hannibal basically has a superhuman sense of smell except when he doesn't. No one seems to notice how most of Hannibal's patients either get murdered or commit suicide.

Somehow I can take all this and not bat an eye, and then suddenly I'm like dude keep still in the MRI machine, did no one tell you?

I enjoy the show a lot, but it suffers from an effect I've noticed in FRINGE, which is that you get an overarching plot that's developed in little bits every episode, but the meat (as it were) of each episode is an independent plot du jour, and that simply doesn't work when it results in the team catching ten serial killers in three months. Large parts of episodes end up feeling like filler material, and of course some filler episodes are much worse than others. I'm sure this is just some kind of long-standing paradigm they have in writing rooms.

Goku would be ashamed of you.
Not really an irrationally irritating thing but I'm binging Rescue Me on Netflix and on at least two occasions so far the character Lou has called the character Tommy "Denis", who is played by Denis Leary. That's usually the kind of mistake that gets edited out and I don't think I've ever seen a show or movie before where an actor called another actor by their real name and it got left in, much less twice.

On that note, Rescue Me is really not a show that lends itself to a binge-watch very well. Not that they had any way of knowing binging would become a thing while filming it. The "shocking" deaths come way too often and probably would've had more impact if you had to wait a week or more between episodes. Rescue Me is almost like Game of Thrones in regards to killing off characters but manages to make it feel really forced and instead of worrying about the well-being of your favorite characters like GoT manages to pull off I can't help but watch Rescue Me and wonder "which random character is going to die this episode?".

And there's a ton of inconsistencies like the ages of characters and even the existence of whole characters that would probably be less noticeable if I weren't watching huge chunks of the show back-to-back.

It's still great TV but it's made me wonder if television developers these days take into consideration how binge-watching will affect their show. Most Netflix Originals, like Orange is the New Black and Sense8, seem to hold up really well being marathoned all over a weekend and I wonder if that's intentional or just luck.
