Yeaaaa they are. When they headlined Infest a few years ago I was in awe at 1) how amazing they were 2) how well they fit in with the rest of the acts their music having not aged a day 3) how much better they were than everyone else.

As mind blowingly good as Laibach.

Yeah, I kind of expected something like, I unno, X-Rx (just to compare to something I also saw today) - which was alright, mind you - like a fairly basic sort of EBM dance party show because I'd never seen any live stuff from them, but that was nothing short of stunning. Although the performances and styles of music are different, of course, Laibach as a comparison feels right. Lots of crazy synth porn stuff going on.

And One was great as expected but felt less impressive after 242.

I should probably try to sleep if I want to catch [:SITD:], they're playing in seven hours :gonk:

I'm insanely jealous. Too bad pretty much all of the shirts are hard to come by. :smith:

I don't think he ever truly imploded; a lot was made out of a few angsty posts. I think he may have had some growing pains.

Five years isn't at all unusual in the genre. Like most people making niche music, he can't make a living selling albums.

Quick impressions from the second and last day of Amphi:

[:SITD:] was very good, but I wish I'd been a bit more awake. I resorted to watching the show from afar sitting while eating breakfast, which was an interesting experience in itself. I'm sure it would've been a hell of a show if I'd managed to drag my rear end to the floor. A lot of people were there for [:SITD:] despite the super early timeslot, which was nice.

Patenbrigade: Wolff is a really fun time on stage. Lots of crazy props and antics. Always liked their music as well but haven't really listened much to it, will probably correct this now.

Diorama is an insanely good band and it's probably some sort of crime that we never talk about it in this thread. Shame on us. Listen to Diorama. Please.

S.P.O.C.K was fun. I mean it's S.P.O.C.K, what more do you need to say

DAS ICH is fantastic and Stefan Ackermann looks great. Almost teared up when I saw him, so glad he's, you know, alive. He's also so intense holy poo poo. Live videos don't do that man justice.

QNTAL lost quite a lot of its charm due to sunlight and some weird mixing. WGT was magical, this was alright.

So Combichrist is just a metal band now? ok

OOMPH! was great and the new single as the opener was fantastic, but holy poo poo do these guys need to switch up their live show. This was my fourth time seeing them live and some songs like Augen auf! just always are the exact same performance, it just feels like routine. I'm also the person who's seen Project Pitchfork nine times now and I've never felt like that at their shows. Hopefully the new album will prompt them to do something new with their live show

I love Diary of Dreams so much and it has to be one of my favorite bands ever, live and otherwise. Just the perfect combination of excellent songs, intricate sound design and live charisma.

I also once again skipped VNV Nation. lol

Mr. Kitty just launched an Indiegogo campaign to help cover the costs of his tour this fall supporting IAMX.

No pictures of the merchandise he's selling though. Also, I'm a bit worried that he's going need to spend all the money getting it made - it's stuff exclusive to this campaign, so I don't think it would be things he already has.

Agreed on both counts, I stumbled across them after they broke up and I'm kind of glad I missed the whole Myspace...thing.

I really like Heart of Darkness but I think someone in the band was listening to Disposable Teens at some point during the recording process.

Still love the new album, but prefer Take Cair Paramour. I'm more into the retro-synthpop thing than the Top 40 dance music vibe the new album kind of gives off at times. New female singer's voice is better than the previous female singer's. At least as good as the first singer, so I look forward to future releases.

I find the new Ashbury Heights very enjoyable, but to me, the first album was so god damned perfect.

And by "very enjoyable" I mean, I'm really loving enthusiastic. I feel like my standbys in this genre have let me down severely. Seabound especially. Last Covenant was pretty good. This Ashbury Heights is better than anything else I've heard in a while.

But like, all the electronic/futurepop/synthpop/electroclash/etc. bands I was hugely into from the early 2000s on are practically dead to me. (Not to say I can't enjoy their old music still. And a lot is still ahead of its time as far as I'm concerned.)

There's still some "industrial" I like and find fresh, but I couldn't begin to define that term :D
