Got to hear the guy running the Austin Sports Commission this morning talk about the Austin Bowl that will now happen in 2016. Long story short: they claim to have DKR Stadium, time slots with either CBS or NBC, and sponsors lined up. They're holding out primarily for a Big 12 tie-in, and think they have a reasonable chance of getting it by waiting for the Independence Bowl to die after this year on account of their own sponsorship turnover. Didn't share a whole lot more than that because he spent the majority of the time selling Austin as a premier destination to people who live here.

Austin has rapidly turned into a much better place to visit than to live so it's probably going to be a nice bowl game site with the distance from DKR to downtown etc. The transit system is bullshit if you live anywhere but immediately adjacent to the city but it's great if you are in a hotel downtown and want to see things here and there and go to the game.

And that night everybody was proven right and I was proven to be the stupid homer. I know the general rule of thumb is that it's better to get there and lose than not get there at all, but jesus Christ that night I questioned that rule.

Local gov't is committed to expanding at all costs, and state gov't actively seeks to gently caress with Austin at every possible opportunity, so that transit issue isn't getting resolved any time soon. People will live out their lives waiting to exit off of 35 to go downtown.

Citizens of Austin in the 90s also thought to themselves that if they shoot down any investment in infrastructure, the city would stop growing and people would stop showing up. Feeling happy that a ~6 mile commute only takes 20 minutes sucks.

I live in Austin now, and the infrastructure problem is real, but honestly the traffic still isn't that atrocious. As a matter of perspective if you think the commute around Austin is bad please go live in DC/NY/LA and tell me which you think actually has a traffic problem. There is traffic that sucks for like all of prb 3 hours total in the day. 8-9:30 AM & 5-6:30 pm is about it. For locals I'm sure it's the worst, but as one of the transplants it still seems so not that bad.

Not a native, but I was here before the crazy growth boom really got going. Many things the city needs to be doing to fix its problems before they get too bad, but the city's never had a history of being proactive...

Baylor's 247 board posted a free, pretty in-depth breakdown of Phil Bennett's scheme in general and what to expect from it this year. I went into it mostly looking for homerism and sunshine, but it's pretty thorough and gave me a better understanding of defensive formations and position responsibilities, which I thought was pretty neat. Might be worth a look if anyone's interested in studying x's and o's. http://baylor.247sports.com/Article/Baylor-Defensive-Breakdown-for-the-2015-Season-38270599
