What are these "critical" hits you speak of? Is that when you don't roll a 1 all the loving time? Cause that'd be nice. Has anyone tried playing D&D with a deck of dice cards?

There's several RPG systems out there using cards as resolution mechanics.

Also, I'd recommend doing a once over on the powers deck; I think it's okay but I'd love another set of eyes to make sure I didn't mismatch a back or leave out needed stuff somewhere.

I'm cool with tossing you a couple of bucks for setting up the cards. I'll check the deck for mistakes in a bit. Considering printing out the stuff for the Star Trek retheme of Space Alert too. Maybe then I could convince my group to play it.

I don't know poo poo about RPGs but are players really ok with situations like "the low cards have clustered at the bottom of the deck because we've seen most of the high ones already, guess my next 10 stabs are doomed to be misses from now on "?

Usually card-based RPGs shuffle discards back into decks fairly frequently, so that that kind of situation doesn't happen

Any good deck of dice will have a card that says "shuffle the deck when you draw this card" to prevent that very situation.

Players should just be allowed to shuffle the deck whenever they want. More interesting decisions that way.

general opinion is that you should play it with at least Shattered Empires. if not that, at least find the role cards included there and use those over the base game cards.

Enjoy it, TI is an amazing experience.

only take plastic style cards or non paper products (Hive Pocket is the perfect camp game). Carcassonne is pretty good in a tent too, if you have space. Mostly we just play cornhole or ladderball though if we're car camping and weight isn't an issue.

Had a buddy start playing Warhammer Quest on his phone and now he is pretty determined to either get the game on ebay OR a game a lot like it.

Is there a game that is close to that style of game but updated since...1994? I think that is when the game dropped.
Descent or something like that or did those games add a ton of new/complicated stuff?

edit: Should point out he likes the random stuff that happens in town/to dungeons and I don't personally know if that is strictly in the App version or if the board game itself had that sorta random element tossed in or not

I've never played Warhammer Quest, but didn't FFG announce some new fandangled Warhammer Quest? A friend played it at Gencon and basically said it was like a better Pathfinder Adventures, which isn't exactly high praise, but still probably worth checking out.

He's tried like the d&d games, castle of whoever, and did not care for it as you only had one level to get and little else going on he felt
Haven't tried anything like descent, seems to have hit and miss reviews, and pathfinder doesn't seem well liked either

Contacted Wizkids about the potential for replacement Shades of Tezla tokens/cards whenever the next printing comes around, and got this in reply:

Wizkids support posted:

Thank you for contacting us about your issue. We are aware of the issues with the Shades of Tezla Expansion and are currently looking into ways of fixing them. At the moment, all copies of the expansion are affected and we do not have any way to replace the parts requested. Please be patient as we are working with our factories to provide a solution in the near future.

Thank you,

The Wizkids Replacement Team

So that's... somewhat heartening? Especially since they're apparently already replacing manuals (though their "one replacement per game purchase" policy makes be a bit hesitant). Still, probably worth keeping an eye out and not just settle for poo poo pieces. At least they didn't tell me to gently caress off (yet).

It's an unpopular opinion but I really like Myth for this. You just HAVE to be sure you get your hands on the 2.0 rules. I'd be happy to do a little mini-writeup on the way the game works if you want.

Dungeon Saga is coming out soon too.

If someone's asking if they should get Sentinels, it's fair to warn them against it. If someone already has Sentinels, and already enjoys Sentinels, and has already decided that they want more Sentinels and just wants to know which more Sentinels to get, then saying "actually sentinels sucks you retard" isn't helping anyone.

"Don't get any of the expansions" is a . reasonable response if the expansions are all a noticeable step down in quality from the base game, such as in the case of Battlestar Galactica. But that's not the case here.

Telling someone who enjoys SotM not to get any expansions is completely reasonable. Board games are not a free commodity one summons from thin air. If a person asks which $40 add-on they want for a pretty subpar product, it's a fair statement to tell them their money is better spent elsewhere.

Oh, and I'll take BSG's expansions over Sentinel's. At least then your time and money are going to an actually different experience even if it is the Ionian Nebula. Sentinel's adds in all of two heroes over the course of its expansions who provide interesting turn by turn decisions. That's two heroes of two dozen.

Nightmist and The Naturalist are not good enough to recommend any expansion at all unless you're a die-hard fan. And if you are, you don't need a recommendation on which expansion to get. If you're looking for more Sentinel's after the base game, then you're going to be fine with whatever anyway because the expansions have as much to differentiate another as Munchkin sets.

In short, if telling anyone someone not to buy Sentinels expansions isn't helping anyone, then I guess I'm going to keep being an obstructionist rear end in a top hat, because it's not unhelpfulness, it's a goddamn public service announcement.
