I feel like I've been seeing Skatepark a lot more than I remember previously, too. Glad I'm not the only one.

I really enjoy Rainmaker on Saltspray because it very rarely ends in a knockout unless one team is ridiculously better than the other.

CodfishCartographer posted:Can someone write a few words on Rainmaker, because I think I'm not "getting it" or something - I almost always lose and it's just not any fun at all and it's just tanking my rank hard. Almost every time I get the rainmaker, I either die instantly or before I can get close to making progress. Whenever someone else on my team grabs it I do my best to cover them, but it usually is just the two of us against the entire enemy team so it never really ends well. Late, since I'm at work and keep getting interrupted, but here's just a few, based on a few hours from last night. On defense, it's absolutely worth hanging back after a fight at your base and making sure there's no enemy ink trail leading to your goal. Cover that stuff up a good ways back so they have to fight for every inch all over again. During a fight is also really important to cover the paths the enemy's trying to lay down. It keeps the Rainmaker back and gives your team more time to respond. Don't have anything specific for fighting against the Rainmaker, aside from the obvious that flanking is your friend. Getting right up in the Rainmaker's face can help too, since it shoots in a cone pattern rather than a rectangle. If there's someone on your team fighting over the Rainmaker's shield with someone on the other team, try and get a flank on the enemy player around the Rainmaker. If you can't, then you can give a hand in breaking it. On the other hand, if there's isn't anyone contesting the shield for your team, it's now your job until you get some backup. Just watch out for enemy flanks and don't get within the shield's splat range if possible. You can risk letting the enemy get it quickly, just make sure you're in a position to steal it or splat them immediately. On offense, your primary goal with or without the Rainmaker is getting a path of your ink to the goal. Splats are secondary, but important. The first time your team gets the Rainmaker you want to make as straight a line as possible to push the distance down for a time victory. Save the alternate paths for later. If you don't have the Rainmaker and aren't playing a Charger, stand in front of the person who does so your body can absorb shots first. Your death is of minimal importance, while the Rainmaker's life is most important. Forging ahead to force the enemy to deal with you will let the Rainmaker player line up shots. Bubbler is super nice here too, since even though the person carrying the Rainmaker can't use it, you can use it to make a good screen by yourself to defend your Rainmaker's push, and it only gets better with two players. As such if you have a charged Bubbler try not to pick up the Rainmaker. If you are carrying the Rainmaker, keep in mind that it shoots in a cone, so the earlier you spot an enemy the better. Watch your teammates. If there's a friendly roller running at you from the goal, cover for them until they reach you and then ride the ink trail to victory. Really, just watch for a line to the goal like a hawk and shoot for it as soon as it's there. You can surprise a lot of people with that. Finally, map awareness is more important for Rainmaker than any other mode. Keep an eye on that map on the gamepad, and it'll tell you a hell of a lot of information. Hmmm. I thought I'd received one once and gave one away once, but now I'm not sure. Edit: Even if it doesn't work, it's still pretty good for setting up a screen to defend your Rainmaker's push. Onean fucked around with this message at 02:34 on Aug 16, 2015 |

When I get time off work I need to get back into goon squads for Rainmaker. Still having issues where i'm inking intricate beautiful paths half way across the map to the goal but rainmaker man still wants to take it through the heavily contested middle. Also had a whole lot of matches where the opposing team were in our turf with the rainmaker but my team kept ignoring the shiny dude to try and take out everyone else, letting them win pretty drat easily.

Besides the splatling, the only chargers I'm remotely good with are the squiffers, and even then I can't break 400 points with them. I'm a pretty bad sniper in other games, though, so it might just be a personal problem of mine.

How the hell do I git gud at gyroscope controls? Do I suffer terrible defeats over and over until I hit that peak? Or am I able to cheap out on it since the controls don't ultimately matter?

Or exclusively use rollers/inkbrushes where precise aiming doesn't matter nearly as much.

So I grab the rainmaker on saltspray, start making my push, try to jump from mid to the lower section so I can sneak around the other team while my guys hopefully keep them in place...and immediately fall into the ocean. I proceed to do this two more times. I am a threat to myself and others. (We still won and I moved the fucker farther than anyone else)

Twice already i've managed to clip through the ground and fall to my death. Once doing a superjump to a teammate who was on a corner in Urchin Underpass and then in a laggy match on Saltspray rig while I tried going up a wall. Also i've died more times than I can count to the Rainmaker's bubble. Not out of the opponents blowing it up mind you, but due to it expanding while i was between it and a wall.

Guess I found a good use for the 3 special duration time and 3 swim up equipment after all in Rainmaker. Also I had a 30 sec match at the Mall. 10 sec) 2 Teammates got to the Rainmaker and are fighting 3 enemies while a Splattershot helps me put out beckons faster. 15 sec) Teammates splat the guy that grabbed the Rainmaker, freed it and I grab it and make a make a mad dash for the goal. 25 sec) All 3 Teammates are stuck in the middle defend off 3 enemies that jumped there while I make way to the goal. 30 sec) I jump over a Charger shot and dunk the Rainmaker while my team, who were still in the middle, finish off the last enemy and booyahed when they saw that I was at the goal.

i managed to get a good room and climb to A, but like 90% of the people i played with/against didn't understand that the Rainmaker needs an advance guard.

I wondered if Rainmaker might encourage me to alter my weapon selection a bit, so I tried the brushes and had mixed results. Then I went back to my typical Aerospray and started kicking rear end, looks like I am fated to use this gun until the end of time.

The aerospray is really good, it's been my weapon of choice for a while. I've been having good luck with the tentatek splattershot, though--it has pretty good firepower and range and its sub and special are a little more useful than the RG's.

I love the Aerospray but I have a hard time winning close combat battles with it. I use the Splattershots almost exclusively now because I can more reliably take people out when I'm making an aggressive push. (Although now I'm using the N-Zap for Rainmaker mode since it has Echolocator.) But sometimes for Splatfest I pull out the Aerospray for old times' sake and it just feels right. Wish it had better splatting firepower, though.

Before you know it you'll start using the gyro controls to fix your aim without even realizing it.

So I got all the way up to the enemy base at Bluefin splatted the one guy because I could see him thanks to a teammates echolocator. I hide until he came back and jump down and I Kraken to get him again only to watch him swim back to the spawner and forget that there is grate behind him and fell through. I felt so bad that I just left after that.
