.jpg posted:How was your fried chicken earlier in the week? Good but I don't think I used enough of the spices and sauces, or didn't get enough coverage, because there were a few pieces that weren't very flavorful. The salmon was a much better Wakako-cipe.

Yea I found it a bit bland on its own too, though I put mine in nanban sauce which is like a sweet and sour kind of deal at least episode 5 has an achievable recipe with yakitori, though I don't have a grill...

.jpg posted:Yea I found it a bit bland on its own too, though I put mine in nanban sauce which is like a sweet and sour kind of deal It's definitely doable with a stove or oven with some tools, but there's no way to get that proper smokey flavor without a proper grill. Iirc, there's a way to do it in the oven with charcoal, but that's probably a bit dangerous. Otoh, the meats for this should be relatively cheap since hearts, gizzards and livers aren't too popular. However, the tails might need to be taken whole chickens since I don't recall ever seeing them sold separately (if you have a butcher, then it's probably easy to get everythign for a reasonable cost). As for availability, if it's not available from a big box store like Wal-Mart or Publix or whatever the regional equivalent of that is (like Wawa?), then try an ethnic grocery of sorts that sells meats.

I would like to support this series by buying some character goods. Why are there no Wakako figures?

I wasn't gonna go for the whole menagerie, maybe just some chicken breast and liver skewers, leeks and sauce

I'm glad I waited for the translator to get back, three episodes of Wakako is good times.

I'm happy that Wakako chose the path of peace, instead of getting mad at the rear end in a top hat junior.

I hope she's learned a valuable lesson regarding how to eat yakitori.

Potato salad rules no matter its country of origin. Though German potato salad is the best.

Everything Burrito posted:This article indicates that it's a pretty popular dish (also has a recipe). Oh I totally get that fairly mundane western foods are popular in Japan, its just not the reason I'm watching. Also that recipe couldn't be much more basic when it comes to potato salad.

I'm not a big fan of potato salad, but Wakako just enjoys herself so much with even a mundane dish like that, it's nice.

I can't remember the last time I've had a potato salad so I'll probably end up making one sometime, thanks Wakako! I've got two weeks off coming up so I plan to catch up on all the meals I skipped (the salted salmon was really nice and I wound up making it a few times since). Anyone have any tips that might not be on the recipes?Going from karaage to the current episode, although allergies might prevent me from doing the sea urchin one
