Well I have found the elusive Auto-Reflect. It is in the game afterall. It was on the Rosetta Ring I got from Chocobo Treasure Hunting. Costs 15 AP though so probably won't use it outside of specific circumstances. Hey...does Reflect work on Comet? I could gently caress those Yans up.

For those who didn't know, I played Final Fantasy XIII-2 before I started this and I devised a point system for that game to determine my personal score for it. Every time the game forced me to look online for something, I deducted a point. By the end I'm pretty sure XIII-2 ranked somewhere between the worst game ever made and a crime against humanity. I am thus profoundly thankful that most sideuqests in FFIX are very intuitive and the game offers plenty of hints. I found the Rosetta Ring and some other treasure because of these Chocobos in Chocobo's Paradise. Another one even tells you where Mognet Central is. I can't stress how much I appreciate this after XIII2's bullshit.

My only complaints are:
1. Can't find Freya's ultimate weapon, even with some instructions online . I thought the Chocobo who led me to Genji Helmet was talking about that treasure but nope, it was another mountain crack on the same continent in the same area. Ugh. Don't particularly care right now.
2. I never got anything from that old bastard for collecting the coffees and giving them to him. He said he'd send me something but last I checked, Zidane doesn't have a house unless you oval office the Tantalus hideout. Thought something might happen come Disk 4 and his death but nope.
3. That fountain i n Lindblum Castle .Zidane says from the start you can put something in the statue or whatever but that's all he says. Not very clear.
4. Have no clue if there's a real point to the Mini-Cid I bought and the Mini-Brahne I found. In fact, I have a lot of poo poo from Treno's auction that I don't get. I hear you need to buy everything there for some reason or another but again, not really spelled out to you.

But yeah, other than that, great game with great, rewarding, and challenging - as opposed to impossible without assistance - sidequests. I just got in Memoria and am very glad I spent forever stealing that Grand Armor. It is way better than the Genji Armor.

The fountain in Lindblum castle is just a joke about Resident Evil. Weird place for one and it could do for a '... just kidding.' from Zidane after.

I wonder how much of that was added in the localization though. The Final Fantasy Wiki has a list of the references.

It looks like a lot considering a bunch were western references to shows. I wouldn't be surprised if they were done by the localization team alone.

A lot of the references to western shows were probably references to Japanese shows in the original.

You're supposed to buy the Griffin Heart/Doga Artifact/Une's Mirror and Rat Tail in the auction then sell them to NPCs in Treno. Then you can talk to a guy at Daguerreo which unlocks the Magical Fingertip at auction - you bring that back to the Daguerreo guy and you can get Excalibur for Steiner.

It's not really worth it though because you can get a better weapon from one of the Chocographs. (The profit you make from selling the auction items is nice early on though)

Total fuckin' silence.
The best (probably) localisation-induced reference was when Tidus and the gang undertook the long trip to Macarena Temple.

Also, I had no idea what "blitzbomb" was, so I looked it up. Sounds hilarious.

Thanks again for the earlier advice regarding the FFX No Encounters weapon drop guys; finally got it yesterday! I did the butterfly hunting and the lightning bolts today. I actually didn't have much of an issue with the butterflies, and in truth I already knew a strategy for the lightning bolts. That said, who on Earth thought that dodging 200 lightning bolts in a row would make for a fun extra mini-game?

It sounds like you aren't using Wait properly. You should keep someone at full ATB and then open a selection menu while the animation is playing. It prevents your buffs from running out (and prevents the enemies' ATBs from increasing) while your attack animations play.

Reflect does not bounce Comet, it's the upside to Comet's downside of having a miss chance. The only thing the old guy in Dali sends you is the airship model that appears in the Tantalus hideout. It's purely cosmetic.

I got to a point in XIII-2 where the only two Wild Artefacts I could access were the one that required spending hours in the casino and the one hidden on the side of a cliff, which could only be found by positioning the camera in a specific way and throwing Mog at it. All the others were in areas that required Wild Artefacts to unlock.

Even with Gamefaqs it took hours to narrow down which ones I could even get. After all that the game took 20 hours to beat, with 5 of those spent making absolutely no progress. I'd glady take the corridor over that, since at least you're actually given challenging fights, visit new areas, and don't have minute-long loading screens when you realise you're in the wrong place. LR is better than both those games at least.

No, and not yet known thus far. Shantotto is currently the only known returning FFXI character. Any console port would also be released only after the acade version, also.

[Dissidia 2015 initial] cast of playable characters will only be 14, however it is the developers goal to get the number of playable characters over 50 with a series of updates to come post release. The developers have even said that once the 50 characters are finished, they would like to include even more as to them "50 feels like a small number". They also wish for all characters playable in the previous Dissidia titles to return.

To be fair, those FFX-2 sequel novel and audioplay things, with all the brain-dead, fan-fictionesque plot stuff, was scenario writer, Kazushige Nojima's doing.

in barret's novella, they explain in great detail that people in midgar have coal-shovel powered trucks. like a team of sweaty guys had to ride with the passengers and shovel coal to keep the truck going

it's good that barret is the first part of the novel cuz a story from his perspective perfectly encapsulates why jrpgs tend not to work in novel form
