FF12-2 isn't even a SRPG, its' a weird RTS RPG with not much of the RPG part. It's kind of interesting and some of the levels are almost laid out like a reverse tower defense game, but the story isn't super interesting (though the writing does an impressive job capturing 12's incredibly british dub - you can still hear gideon emery in Balthier's lines, despite the lack of VA) and the gameplay doesn't offer that much variety.

Yeah, please don't play any of the RTS RPGs developed by SE on the DS. If they're anything at all like the Mana one, the games have such bad player-side input lag while still running the enemy AIs normally, your characters will get stuck on one tile and destroyed by enemies who can actually act.

Oh...that makes sense. I guess this is kind of my bad for playing a hard mod when not knowing a thing about the original game. Hard mods probably assume you know every bit of the mechanics ya know?a Ah well.

All the others were in areas that required Wild Artefacts to unlock.

Even with Gamefaqs it took hours to narrow down which ones I could even get. After all that the game took 20 hours to beat, with 5 of those spent making absolutely no progress. I'd glady take the corridor over that, since at least you're actually given challenging fights, visit new areas, and don't have minute-long loading screens when you realise you're in the wrong place. LR is better than both those games at least.

I tried to get all 160 Fragments but stopped when I realized how bullshit the Bestiary is. I beat the game, watched the "true ending" online and I'm happy.

Well even if they did move it, I doubt they can remove the actual treasure location. I never even found it so even if its contents has been changed, I dont know yet. I might try to find it later but not too worry about it right now. Zidane with his Ultima Weapon, Eiko with Holy, Amarant with Power Throw, they can do enough damage on their own.

Glad I found Power Throw. Amarant was getting kinda useless in terms of damage. If only it didn't cost 19 AP. That makes it the single most expensive Ability in the game and that is really annoying.

I haven't played the Mana one, but 12-2 didn't have that much of a problem with that that I could see. The UI was a little clunky but not that bad.

It's usually easier to just give Amarant a Wind-element claw, a Wind-boosting piece of equipment like the Bracer, then slap on stuff like MP Attack and <enemy-type> Killer. The problem is that Steiner can do the job almost as well with the Excalibur and Rebirth Ring, but Amarant does provide more support options.

Comparing anyone to the piece of human trash that is Vince Russo is a bit harsh but I agree with your overall point. Nojima had help with VII and X while he appeared to do VIII and Kingdom Hearts on his own and we can see a huge disparity in quality from Group A to Group B.

I actually have him wearing the Bracer since it's the best normal hand equipment that I can find. You can steal them from Chimeras in the mod. I like Amarant not only because of his support options but I can keep him in the back row as well. I pretty much keep everyone in the back row these days. Now he has Power Throw he can hit nice and hard too.

in FFIX Mod News, I just beat Hades. First off, he has Auto-Protect and maybe Auto-Shell. Secondly, I made the fight harder on myself by having Zidane using the Masamune instead of Ultima Weapon because I forgot to change it back. I had the Masamune equipped in order to use Soul Blade and Doom on Chimeras and easily end the fight. I was level grinding in the first area of Memoria where only Iron Man's and Chimeras appear and Iron Man are easy enemies but Chimeras were annoying. Then I realized they were vulnerable to Doom and that 10 counter will run out super fast. Anyway, that plus Auto-Protect is why Zidane only did a little over a 1000 damage to Hades. Probably with Ultima Weapon he would have been able to deal 2000 with Scoop Art. Most of the heavy lifting thus fell to Eiko and Holy. She could still do between 3500 and 4000.

I stole from Hades on the first attempt but while I got the Robe of Lords in my first try, I didn't care enough to bother doing it again. I already have one and none of my other active party members can use it. Besides, I have kept Eiko wearing the White Robe anyway because it increases her Holy's damage.

Hades'' moveset is 99% Powering Sword. He will occasionally cast Reflect, do Judgment Sword - which actually kills you this time, assuming it hits - or use Stone. He also has a move called Damnation which, as far as I can tell, permanently KO's a party member if it hits. On my second attempt he started the fight with that move on Zidane and nothing I could do revived him. But as I said, most of the time he'll be counting down to his super moves. He alternates between Curse and Doomsday. Now I don't know if it's just the fact we area about 10 level highers than we were when we fought Ozma - everyone is level 67 or 68 - and we have better equipment on, or if Hades' Curse is weaker than Ozma's but sometimes it missed and didn't KO everyone. Maybe it wasn't Instant KO Ozma hit us with but the attack was simply too strong for anyone to survive at the time. But yeah, after he powers up to use Curse he will power up again and use Doomsday. Even with Shell on and Ribbons across the board no one could survive it unless they just straight up evaded it. Magic Evasion is such a weird and annoying stat. Luckily Amarant has Aura. Really don't even know how you'd beat this game without Eiko an her Full-Life or Amarant's Auto-Life.

Power Throw is really good, too. Between a Rising Sun, a Scoop Art and a Holy, we can typically do about 10-12000 damage to most enemies. These days I don't even bother having Freya do damage in boss fights. She's like a really beefy support character with her Dragon Armor and Chemist ability.

Mostly I'm just glad I beat Hades because now I can make Ethers and Phoenix Pinions. That was a great surprise I maxed out on both of those right away.

Did Damnation do something like apply Zombie? If that's the case you'd need to use a Spell Tag before you can revive them.

I'm actually halfway curious how the mod's gonna tamper with the last three bosses.

You know that's kind of what I was thinking. It isn't the first time someone has been KO'ed while a status effect was on them preventing me from immediately reviving them. Last time it was Petrify though but I never even thought of Zombie or using a Magic Tag on Zidane. I haven't run into anyone who inflicts Zombie in a long, long time.

It's a little late to check now though, unfortunately. But I wouldn't be surprised if you were right.

quote:

Something new on Final Fantasy XV has emerged online today thanks to a new Gamescom 2015 interview with director Hajime Tabata posted on Spieletester. During the interview, Mr. Tabata has revealed some interesting new details on the game’s magic system.
According to the Final Fantasy XV director, magic will be activated by special rings the characters will be able to wear. Final Fantasy XV’s magic won’t come out directly from characters hands but it will be a manipulation of the elements in the environment. Magic in the game is also going to be divided into two different types, with one type being a special one that only those from the Lucis family can use. Finally, Mr. Tabata confirmed that magic is around 60% complete, as it is fully functional but it still leaves something to be desired in the visual department.

I have eight hours left to decide if I want to preorder Type-0 on Steam or not. I have not played any version of this game before even though it caught my eye way back on the PSP. I also know the story is a huge mess, though not the details because I didn't want to spoiler myself. So it's a good time for someone to convince me not to buy this thing 'cause I'm listening. On the good side it's 22€ with bonus Dota 2 items I can probably flip to lower up the price even more. On the other, I don't see anyone clamoring for it anywhere.

They should make a Final Fantasy game where you control a Hell House. You start off as a Hell Brick and you have to hunt stuff and find a mate and have lots of Hell Cottages and end up with a tribe of Hell Dwellings and then you have to lead them to prosperity. And then you make an entire city of Hell Buildings and go destroy Midgar or something. You have to sneak up on them, one building at a time. You assimilate the whole place and then envoys from other countries visit and you have to pretend to be a real city. While quietly murdering them all. Then your people evolve into Hell Airships and you take over the world.

Anyway, that's my stupid Final Fantasy idea for today.
