Standard I imagine? It's the basic trim package, nothing fancy. I know there are replacement dash faces available on amazon.

Edit: wait, by "standard or auto" do you mean just the transmission? If so, it's an automatic trans.

Does the climate control have FAN LOW HIGH and dumb rear end knobs, or is it some space oddity poo poo with numbers where it turns the heat and ac on automatically based upon some retarded number you spin a knob to.

If its a standard climate control, just get a face kit and whatever radio you want and slam it in. If it is auto the climate control is intergrated into the radio and you need a special snowflake JDM climate control.

You can outsource the job if it's a standard climate control, but some kid making 8 dollars an our is going to use electrical tape and scotch locks and you're better off DIY'ing it. Crutchfield kits usually have good details and they are good about hand holding. You can also post here if you get stuck.

Pretty sure you never want to buy a Subaru with engine mods.

Good chance he's wound up the boost without doing anything else to support it.

Sellers lie all of the time. With all of the other mods he's done, I'd guess that it's also been boosted.

Dear gently caress, the Subaru dealership and a Subaru specialist guy in Socal have had my 2011 WRX for over 10 weeks now and still haven't figured out why the A/C randomly shuts on and off no matter what it's set on. Holy gently caress Subaru, you are making it really hard to love you. I've gone through 3 motors and more electrical gremlins than I can count on both hands in under 70k Miles, at least Subaru's been covering it generally to this point.

Anyone have any ideas? Literally every part of the A/C System (Including the climate control in the dash and other related sensors) have been replaced at this point, to a cost of over 2,000$ total and they've been literally combing the wiring harness wire by wire for over 2 weeks now checking for abnormal voltages.

Chances are you do not need to take apart the dash to do this, just the center trims. Most Subarus go something like pull up e-brake boot, unscrew shift knob, pull up shifter ring, unscrew shifter panel & lift off, unscrew radio/hvac face plate and pull out - then just disconnect wires. The rest of the dash stays in place. If you're just replacing the headunit, you'd just put the new hvac/radio panel in with the new head unit and get a proper wiring adapter between it and the original wiring, reverse.

I'd estimate like 8-10 screws total and like 4 panels that simply unclip by pulling.

You might be able to swap that out for the head unit and auxin module from an 07 STI Limited. It fit into my 06 WRX.

Very similar in stocky appearance.

My '06 Impreza cruise control light is intermittently turning on and blinking, and it only stops if I shut the car off for a few seconds (basically until the outside temp light shuts off). It doesn't happen on every drive and when it does it seems like it doesn't happen until at least ten minutes into my commute. I haven't noticed it happening before I'm about a quarter tank down after a fill-up, but it's only happened for two or three weeks so far so that might not be a causal factor, just coincidence. I thought it was only happening on starts from standing, but then yesterday it happened when I was in third gear and already moving ... I think. (I can't stare at the Cruise light at all times, could have missed it.) There is no corresponding CEL. There are no other symptoms that I can pinpoint and the car otherwise appears to be acting normally. Thoughts?

That would happen on my '07 STI right before the CEL indicating a misfire on cyl 4 (aka cracked ringland). Non-turbo Imprezas don't have that problem, though, right? I'd wait to hear from the more knowledgeable posters, but a compression / leakdown test may be in your future.

I'd say it's more like having a mole biopsied. Yeah, it's PROBABLY just a mole, but it might not be.

Maybe I phrased that in a reactionary way, but I'm just saying that's how mine started. If I'd taken it more seriously and had it looked into sooner, I'd still have that car. I assumed that it couldn't POSSIBLY be anything that bad because I bought it new, treated it well, had no mods and only 75k miles on it.

Has anyone taken their Crosstrek in deep soft sand or mud? How did it do? I'm looking for a vehicle that will take me down rough backcountry roads of southern Utah. I called a tow truck driver for the area I wanted to drive in and he said he pulled Subarus out all the time, but I don't know if he was actually familiar with the Crosstrek. I saw an older Outback make it down a very sandy road that is rated for high clearance 4WD, but it was also early in the spring morning when the sand may have been almost frozen. I'm torn between the Jeep Patriot, because I test drove it down that road and it did great, and the Crosstrek.

BajaHAHAHA.

I think it comes down more to the driver. I got my Baja through some things it probably should have gotten stuck in but as long as you keep your momentum up you should be fine (for sand and mud that is, don't expect to rock crawl in a subie), and that was before I did any of my swap stuff to it, so with the original 5spd open front, viscous center, and vlsd in the rear. The auto boxes get a better center diff, and the cross trek has decent ground clearance, as long as you're not being an idiot you should be fine.

Maybe check out the Outback? It's not a truck, the author admits, but with some minor mods you can probably manage? You might be able to do something similar with a crosstrek.

Good passwords are a good idea.
Patriot vs XV, I honestly can't expect there's really a whole lot of difference off road. If you go with the FDII package on the Patriot, it should be better than the XV, but I can't imagine it makes a huge difference. At the end of the day, they're both car based crossovers with AWD, CVT and a 4cyl, so they're going to be similar. It's really tough to tell without taking them both out, I'd say. I did find a post on the Patriot forum with a decent comparison, basically says the same thing:
http://www.jeeppatriot.com/forum/showpost.php?p=746010&postcount=3

Edit:
Can you get X-Mode on an XV? Doesn't look like it (yet?), but bet that's pretty similar to the software changes you get with the FDII option.

Edit 2:
If I still have our SG Forester in a few years and it's no longer our primary vehicle, I really want to lift it and put on some decent tires for a bit of mild offroad shenanigans. I love the look of a lifted Forester or Outback.

FWIW my 03 impreza wagon had little issue off road. Obviously I wasn't doing river crossings etc cause it's an impreza, nothing that counts as 4 wheel driving, but I can't see how the xv wouldn't be better cause it's newer so long as it has low range.

The wrx is very fun on dirt roads :getin:

The modern subarus generally don't have locking diffs and don't have lsds. So they'll have issues in really sandy stuff.

US subarus don't have a low range.

My Outback is making a ticking sound on sharp left hand turns. Textbook CV axle symptoms. However, I was inspecting them today while I was down there installing my 2.25" spacer lift kit and they both look fine. CV boots are solid, no excessive axle play. I didn't poke around too much for flung grease, though. Should I just continue to ignore them for the time being, should I replace both, or should I try and narrow down which axle is dying?
