chairface posted:I felt similarly regarding Obama caricatures over the last decade or so. He's a guy you could legit draw as funny looking fairly naturally (insert Shmorky comic here) and yet people just hosed it right up. I think this is part of why Pope's Tony Abbott drawings always make me smile, because Tony Abbott's nowhere near as inherently ridiculous looking as Obama or Trump but Pope hits it out of the park anyway. Also much like Clovis' Minister Eat Ah Food, I mourn the passing of all the various UK caricatures of Ed Milliband as Wallace now that his relevancy is tanking. Out of all the candidates this cycle, the one who's the greatest gift to caricaturists is Scott Walker, because he looks like a drooling imbecile. The Peccadillo posted:Pope doesn't seem to find Obama particularly ridiculous These are, quite honestly, probably the best Obama caricatures I've ever seen. Pope is a really impressive artist. Stultus Maximus posted:He's been on Trump's case since Trump's first wave of fame in the 80s. I think the current hate is coming from a sense of disbelief that the guy is still around and popular despite it not being the 80s any more. It's like if Michael Milken were Jeb!'s economic advisor or something. Yeah, during the last year of Bloom County Classic he even put Donald Trump's brain in the body of Bill the Cat, which was still the status quo when the strip ended.

Serious question; has Latuff ever made cartoons about the situation in Australia regarding immigrants and detention centers? Seems like the kind of thing he would be all over.

If they didn't, there'd be no traction on trying to get white men to stop using the n word. Yeah, Trump gets attention because he's an open sore. He's an unpleasant man who got his attention because most people find him unpleasant. The fact that he gets media attention makes him seem bigger and more influential than he really is, but despite all the furor surrounding him, he's still only polling like 20% in the primaries, and that's just among the Republican base. It's basically mean world syndrome but with candidates: because so much attention is devoted to the unpleasant thing, it makes the unpleasant thing seem more prevalent, but it's not, it just seems that way because everyone's talking about it.

I disagree that the 20% shows a vote ceiling for Trump, he consistently does very well as the second choice candidate. But remember, the Republican base is hugely nonrepresentative of the country at large, so he still has nothing to convince the wider population to like him or vote for him. He could get the nomination, but he'd need several dozen miracles to win the general.

For the record he didn't actually attend the event you're attempting to associate him with. What third degree connections? The man had loving tea with Salah and publicly defended the '9/11 Israel did it' article. This is first degree, he literally sat across a table from a man who spouts blood libel and called him a fantastic citizen. He doesn't HAVE to answer, no, I don't think us crafty Jews have finished our Truth Ray yet so he's safe for now, but it'd be nice if he gave a statement about why he feels Salah qualifies as a great dude and poo poo. I don't think it's that absurd to want that, is it? Also re the event, I didn't know much about his status there, we're talking about the thing yesterday or friday right? If he didn't go, then good I guess because MEMO kinda sucks a lot and it'd be nice if major leadership didn't pretend they didn't.
