I tried searching for the Vox Day community's justification for hating this year's graphic novels and all I could find was, roughly, "has lesbians, therefore filth" (Rat Queens) and "has Muslims, therefore vile" (Ms. Marvel). Definitely the words of people who don't want identity politics in comic books

I'm not opposed to either lesbians, mulisms, or lesbian muslisms in mainstream media as long as they're not dog whistles for right wing milita types or wank material for straight guys. Also, if you don't thing at least part of their objection to Ms. Marvel is that she is wearing a more modest costume instead of that black and yellow outfight with the thigh high stripper boots.

The thing that strikes me as most appalling about the whole ordeal isn't that some guy is upset about skeletons and their treating people with respect, it's that he views turning something he likes a whole lot into a flaming shitpile instead of sharing it with 'people who have the temerity to write about things that he doesn't like' as a net win for 'his team'. I don't think it's the skeletons who have embraced 'scorched earth tactics' here.

Even in gaming I don't think that the majority of people who play video games have the fanatical devotion to misogyny that characterizes gamergate. It's easy to assume that it comes from being socially isolated/maladjusted but it's not like that's a requirement for a group of blue collar misogynists or rear end in a top hat Christian bigots. They're just Freeper types who read sci-fi.

That Dave Sim article...Jesus H. Christ that guy is the most frothing at the mouth insane misogynist I have ever seen, and I've seen Gamergate. He probably imagines some future where (exclusively male) babies are gestated in artificial uterus machines, and none of the men (all men) who populate the earth have ever seen a woman or really remember what women were, and because they've learned to manfully disconnect themselves from the yonic vampire void of EMOTION they cannot produce or appreciate anything of artistic value and the greatest treasure of their worthless culture is a comic book series about an aardvark. Beneath a soot-blackened sky thousands of monumental concrete penises reach for the heavens, containing the sleeping quarters of the worker units, whose entire existence is working to create more and better machines for the glory of the Male Light. They file through the streets, silently, obediently to the factories, where they sit down at their appointed benches and praise the almighty Phallussiah before beginning the 16-hour work day.

The "nerds will seek stagnation" thing is sadly true, although it's usually true only of a certain percentage of the subculture, the most hardcore obsessives. Another example is how D&D 5th edition is essentially a throwback to much earlier editions, throwing out decades of more modern game design, because WOTC is more interested in the money of the hardcore "grognard" pen-and-paper RPG players than they are in the money of the kind of people who play (for example) 13th Age or something. This makes economic sense, you can sell endless supplements and rules to those kinds of players because they loathe the idea of free-form play and will always need more official material. Games like 13th Age are written specifically for players to go off and improvise and do their own thing so they don't require new content streams that make money flow back to the publisher. But these hardcore players are even more resistant to change than your average video gamer is, which is one of the reasons that pen-and-paper RPGs have failed to make the leap to the mainstream like so many other nerd hobbies. Not the only reason by far but it's certainly been a part of it. See also the hardcore Star Wars fandom's reaction to the unceremonious dispatch of the Extended Universe canon, etc. The more obsessive the fan, the less they like change.
