also looks like we'll be having vintage bitcoin thread fun over the coming days, there's a lot of downward pressure especially at bitstamp since they got nominated main exchange while the fuckery at bitfinex gets resolved (the small volume is easy to knock around)

when i first got into butts, i was looking to score some meth for my friend's mom. he asked me to get the meth from the silk road after telling me that it would ease the pain caused by her cancer in the ear. initially i went and tried to get some coins via gethornet.com's app after i read an article that someone was suggesting using an older man as a profile. however upon meeting up with someone, the guy who offered me buttcoins brandished a knife and told me to give him my wallet. this was not a good experience for me and buttcoin at first

a week later and after my friend's persistence got to me, i went and pulled out $900 from my credit card as a cash advance and used some local buttcoin service. i got my buttcoins but the guy was really loving weird and kept asking me if i was some japanese man named satoshi buttcake (i am not sure if i am spelling this right). i have no loving idea who this buttcake guy is but i guess the guy who sold me the coins was into pokemon or something as he was wearing a shirt with some anime pony

i ordered the meth from the silk road but then the site mysteriously vanished. i panicked because i only had $400 left in my savings account and maybe like one or two buttcoins left. a new site popped up thankfully so i ordered what meth i could from the site. after two weeks of waiting and my friend still pissing me off every day (but i love his mom so i kept helping), a box came in the mail. i opened the box and it was a math textbook. i have no idea why i got a math textbook but now my friend is even more pissed at me and this book is written in thai or russian i think

anyway i am a bit saddened that my experience with buttcoins has been rough but i am still a believer. can you guys tell me more about this satoshi buttcake guy? i really would love to get more deep into buttcoins.

I'm an ex-Buttcoin-shill that got fired on Friday, AMAA

First, I may as well say that there's no point in asking who my employer was. A) It was a shell "customer outreach" company with an extremely generic name, and B) While I don't fear for my *personal* safety, I do fear for my financial future. The powers that want to crush Bitcoin are large, and I can't risk never rising to a position higher than an Amscot desk clerk.

Now to the actual heart of the matter. I went to an end-of-year job fair a few months ago and really hit it off with a group of people at a booth for a well-known company. After talking about my major and strongest classes for the 30th time that day, they switched the subject to social media accounts. They asked me about Twitter, Facebook, Reddit, Tumblr, and believe it or not, 4chan. I played dumb about 4chan ("I know of it") and told them I don't really spend any time on Tumblr, but they were visibly excited that I'm into Reddit and FB. I filled out a pretty generic application and went on my way.

A week later I got an email from the unnamed shell company that introduced itself as "supported by" the large company from the job fair. They were given my application and said that I was a perfect fit for their new social media campaign. I figured that meant the usual ad copy writing, so I told them I was on board. It was sold to me as a work-from-home position at 15 hours per week (10 minimum, 15 maximum) for $18.65 per hour, paid every other week as a 1099 contractor.

Once I signed up, I was given an account to the dashboard which had a time clock start/stop and showed a list of assignments. The assignments were sorted by website, but the only one visible to me was Reddit. When I opened the Reddit assignment, it gave a summary of "competitor talking points" and "suggested responses" which were basically scripted comments to post whenever I see them. The CTPs were things like "Bitcoin will continue to rise" and "The current/conventional/"fiat" money system is exploitative". The SRs had links to bubble charts and phrases like "Dutch tulips"; in hindsight the SRs were pretty insulting or strawmanny, but I hardly paid attention at the time. To get paid, you needed to take screenshots of your posts and submit them to each CTP.

I was on autopilot for a couple months. Once I had the swing of things, I opened up the dashboard in the morning, picked a CTP from the list, and just looked around Reddit during the day. Once I saw it, I pasted a reply or two, and went on my way. I'd normally just leave the dashboard clocked in at home all day to max out my time - quick and easy way to make more than $550 every 2 weeks.

Then I started actually reading and paying attention to what I was "writing" and the responses I was getting. I realized that the SRs were basically just perpetuating the 1%'s talking points and that the CTPs actually made sense. I kept with the posts for about another week, but the guilt kept gnawing at me that I was a cog in big money's machinery. Last week I chose my last CTP from the list, but instead of pasting the SR (which was actually *making fun* of the $500 "half price bitcoins"), I sympathized with the poster and told him that Bitcoin's growth is inevitable. I submitted that post for the CTP, and when it was reviewed on Friday I was apparently locked out of the dashboard and told by email that I'd be receiving a prorated check for my final week. Bastards didn't even have the courtesy to tell me I was fired. Oh well, at least I still have my soul and soon I'll have my first Bitcoin.

Question, I am new. (self.Bitcoin)

submitted an hour ago by Jason-Genova

I am using coinbase and it's frustrating. It takes them a week to get my bitcoins in and it provided me a limit. I wanted to buy something that took 60 dollars and they only accept btc atm. It would only allow me 50 dollars and took a week. I thought fine, then I bought 10 more dollars and it finally completed and now because the btc is down it ate my 10bucks plus some and now i have to freaking order more which will take a week. How come if I have it connected to my bank and debit/credit card I can't instantly get btc?

Didn't it turn out you can just dissolve the glue on the sticker, peel it back a bit and read the key, then glue it back down?

Frequently asked questions about Casascius Physical Bitcoins

Q. Couldn't someone just use an iron / hairdryer / a solvent / whatever to remove and replace the hologram?

A. Try it. The holograms were made by a premier manufacturer who understands they are in the business of making tamper-evident labels, and it looks to me like they did a really good job. It's pretty difficult to remove the hologram without exposing an obvious "honeycomb" tamper evident pattern. The tamper pattern is extremely sensitive and not concealable once exposed - so sensitive in fact, I ruin over 10% of the holograms just preparing the coins and have to discard them. I don't know of a way, and I'd be interested to hear if you do.

Bitboat is not a regular exchange but a platform providing escrow service and automation tools to private buyers/sellers willing to sell via 'cash deposits' so the fee is absolutely reasonable. You should compare it with the ones on localbitcoins or bitcointalk private ad ;) Please note that the price includes both the service fee and the vendors margin.
permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply

[–]bertani[S] 0 points 7 hours ago*
Bitboat fees are 4% and includes live chat support in the local language, escrow service and automation tools (integration with the payment methods supported by the platform). As already said the price on the website is final, including all fees, not just the platform one but the sellers one too. So it doesn't make any sense to compare it to 1% or 5% of localbitcoins, you should add the seller margin too.
The price on bitboat is final and is already including all fees.
permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply

[–]ente_ 0 points 4 hours ago
€213.66 to €172.41 is a €41.25 spread, which is more than 20%. Which is more than 10% spread from the middle in either direction.
Also, 1% on localbitcoin is for the platform (aka fee) and anywhere between 0% and (more typically) 5% for the person creating the offer (aka profit or margin).
permalinksaveparentreportgive goldreply

[–]bertani[S] 2 points 3 hours ago*
4% is bitboat fee for all the services it provides, all the rest is the margin for the vendors so feel free to do your math. It seems like you don't know a lot about the specific markets we are talking about (Italy, France and Spain): Bitboat is aligned to the % these markets are used to. 10% total margin (4% bboat, 6% vendor) is the one for 'bitcoin to cash' (which is the topic of this reddit conversation), 'cash to bitcoin' is a little bit higher but depends on the payment method.
0% to 5% is not anywhere near the average margin for the sellers accepting 'cash deposits' in the listed countries. Please note that Bitboat gives access to Bitcoin ('cash to bitcoins') from 80k+ reselling points in Italy and several thousands in France and Spain too.

At left, one monkey points to flowering tulips while another holds up a tulip and a moneybag. Bulbs are weighed, money is counted, a lavish business dinner is enjoyed. The monkey at left has a list of rare tulips, his sword denotes upper class status. Farther back, a monkey sits like a nobleman astride a horse. One in mid-foreground draws up a bill of sale; the owl on his shoulder symbolizes foolishness and ignobility. Brueghel is not only ridiculing tulip speculators as brainless monkeys, the work is an object lesson for the folly of speculating to such an extent in such a transient thing as a mere bloom. In the denouement at right, a monkey urinates on the now worthless tulips; fellow speculators in debt are brought before the magistrate or weep in the dock. A frustrated buyer brandishes his fists, while at the back right a speculator is carried to his grave.
