Pink/purple is definitely a combination they would never use if it weren't for ~brand synergy~. Not nearly enough contrast. They should have used that tomato soup vermilion colour for the autobots.Your Dead Gay Son posted:I thought I heard somewhere that color lock locked the last color combination you played with. Nope, it's always orange/indigo. They use that combination specifically because it has strong contrast along all opponent-colour axes (light v dark, yellow v blue, red v green), so it covers any type of colour blindness.

Yeah I understand that it locks it to orange/blue because it works the best across all cases, but if it was a user decision to lock it when they played with two colors that worked for them, that'd be cool. That's all

Ranked is brutal cause you can get stomped and not get any points On the other hand, at least team mate disconnects seem a lot more rare compared to unranked.

Orcs and Ostriches posted:Any tips for sniper rifles? I'm half decent with them on other console or PC games, but I'm bad at hitting things and colouring the map on this game. First of all, the ridiculous basics. Your crosshair gets crosses when you're over a target that you can hit. By this I mean when your current level of charge is sufficient to hit that target at that range. If you see it and release right then, you will hit. Got it? Good. Turf War or Ranked? If you're doing Turf War, you're not a sniper rifle. You're a ink shooting Charger who lays down long straight lines of ink for transit and coverage. You do not sit there and try to pick off enemies unless you happen to get a good shot lined up on something. Cover the ground, take some shots here and there, and otherwise focus on the objective. If you're doing Ranked, you're not a sniper rifle. You're an ink shooting charge who lays down long straight lines of ink for transit and coverage. Huh, sounds pretty similar. It's because it's true. In Ranked, though, picking people off is more important. You're still not really a sniper rifle. In any advancement scenario, you should be just behind everyone else, laying down pathways for people. What's that, there's a roller doing the same thing? Great! Lay down alternate pathways. Shoot paths up walls, down side roads. Anything, anything to give your team quick transit from the spawn. Oh, you think if you just hop up on a wall they can just super jump to you? Screw you! Super jumping is almost as fast a way to die in Ranked as jumping into water, and far more common. There's a time for it, but you're not going to win matches by being a perched Super Jump target (that guy from earlier with the roller? He's probably using a Krak-On, and dropping Beakons for your team in safe spots, not up on a wall. Anyway, so you've gotten paths down, and now you're at the objective. Now it's okay to stop and shoot some squids. If there's some in range, charge up and shoot. Don't wait for that perfect shot: just shoot! Even if you miss you make the terrain harder for them. Throw some bombs, too. If you're not using the regular Splat Charger, change that. Until you get good with the Charger playstyle, then remember there's a reason you get that before the Splatterscope, the Squiffer, the goddamn E-Liter (seriously, don't use an E-Liter). Anyway, throw some bombs. Learn how to use the bombs. There's a reason the Splat Charger gets Splat Bombs and the Bomb Rush to work with it, and being less flashy and an Inkstrike doesn't make it less useful. So, ostensibly you have the objective, and the entire enemy team is dead or in retreat. It's not likely to go that way, but we're optimists. If you want to wait and sit with a full charge to nail someone, it's fine to for now. But! Watch where you aim. People know to avoid that laser. Instead, aim at a wall, a crate, anywhere but the actual lane someone's coming down on. When they get to firing range, sweep over and then shoot them. Don't give them a chance to see your aiming laser hovering over them or their path. That's how you encourage people to take slower but safer routes. Which you don't want, as those routes are usually through you, and their guns fire faster. A better option is to not sit there and wait. Advance on the enemy base. Just as you did going up to the objective, laying down paths for your team, now you're laying down...let's call them antipaths. You're using your range and coverage to make coming up from spawn difficult for the enemy, forcing them into slow advances against your ink. Which also leaves them as pickings. Which of these you do depends on the mode and playstyle. Splat Zones tends to want you to move on once the point is secured: it's not going anywhere, and it doesn't need to be babysat. Tower Control can go either way: if three people are already on the tower, then go and try to kill the other guys to keep your tower safe (the extra tower speed is not worth the risk of a TPK to a roller/blaster). If it's Rainmaker, it's your time to shine. Lay down paths and bodyblock for your Rainmaker if you have to. If they lose it, back up so you can shoot the shield with less risk of dying and maybe nail whoever does get the Rainmaker. Just whatever you do, do not sit on a perch the entire match and wait for the enemy to come to you. On that note, you do want the high ground, but not to stay. Travel there occasionally, see if there's anyone to take out, and move on unless you have complete control of the Splat Zones or whatever (then maybe, maybe stay and wait). In short, as a charger, you are support. Paths for allies, antipaths for enemies, and--yes, when the situation presents itself--Anti Problem Squids. Now, for which weapon to use. There's the basic Splat Charger (Regular, Kelp, Scope, Kelp Scope), the Squiffers (Classic and New), the E-Liter 3K (Regular, Scope, and Custom), and Splatlings (currently just the Heavy). Regular chargers are best at the support role, actually. They have range over a lot of stuff (notably they standoff against a Rainmaker), charge reasonably fast, and come with great stuff. I'm not as fond of the scopes because the range is never long enough to justify needing the precision and the longer charge time hurts. If you have a smaller TV though, I could see it being useful. Squiffers are the rough and tumble weapons. You stay with a roller/shooter and take snapshots at enemies. The fast charge time makes you a quick and fearsome killer, but the lower range hurts your support role--you can't make as long ink trails, and when playing objective defense you get outranged by Squelchers and .** Gals. Their preferred mode is Tower Control, where the ranges are short and kills important. E-Liters are also there for killing, but in the other direction. More than anything else, they specialize in taking out problems before they get near. There's a few advantages to this range. Most notably, in Moray Towers, the two opposing balconies over the center are only in range of E-Liters and Inkzookas. I don't recommend using them, as the slower charge time hurts a lot, and I don't find the advantages to be worth it. I haven't actually run into an E-Liter player that was using the advantages of the weapon well, and I count myself in that. That said, the Custom comes with Beakons and the Kraken, and no one's ever called the Krak-On roller on having a bad loadout for good reason, so try it. Once or twice. In Turf War or while you're at C- 0 so you have nothing to lose. Splatlings are a beast of their own, but I still consider them chargers since you need to spin up before firing, and they have range. Splatlings are a balance of killing power and support, losing the straight line power for the ability to sweep an area. Use it if you want a patient twist on an automatic shooter. All in all, I recommend the regular Splat Charger until you get a hang of the playstyle. The balanced aspect lets you get a hang of all of the Charger's roles without feeling too weak in any one area.

To add to the guy talking charger tips: if you're a charger and we're on flounder heights and you shoot a vertical path right to the top side of the tower from our spawn, you're the best. Especially if it's splat zones.

Makes it drat near impossible to help out in a close-quarters fight if you're behind an ally. Why would you design a game like that?!

The main collision thing that drives me nuts is that even though the starting platform positions all four players to have space to run straight ahead, teammates will often immediately run sideways when the match starts and block the players in back. I'm an inkbrush trying to get a running start, let me through!

Lots of people lose a life in Battlefield because a teammate blocks a doorway they'd love to run through, or jumps in the way of an RPG that ought to have hit a tank or grenade that should've saved the day.

While it's annoying in close quarters, I've found the effect is to encourage people to spread out and attack from multiple angles, so it's not all bad. It is pretty annoying when you're playing a blaster and your ally blocks a shot so you don't get the explosion.
