Clementine is a rather shallow, boring character on paper but her VA is knocking it out of the park.

I just find her weirdness/creepiness decent To be fair, though, usually the creepy/yandere/obsessed-with-killing-and-mutilation types are very poorly acted.

Can only do so much with her on paper, but the VA hits spot on with how she's described in the light novel at any rate. She was at her most boring in the manga, as it couldn't quite nail the description given in the novel and lacked the sporadic nature of a voiced character. End result is just a level beyond what I was expecting though.

Are the light novels/web novels (what's the difference?) worth following up on? Other than the obvious thing about story progression, are there substantial differences in events, or tone/mood?

Otherwise, this adaptation has cut out a few minor scenes but the tone, characters and story remain intact.

Artificer posted:Are the light novels/web novels (what's the difference?) worth following up on? Other than the obvious thing about story progression, are there substantial differences in events, or tone/mood? The difference between the web novel and light novel is that the web novel was being written first, and was entirely electronic, lacked a character and some of the other ones were shifted around in terms of who they were loyal to and so forth, while the light novel was sort of the "when he got popular enough for the kool kids club" and started reprinting the already written web novels with some changed content. It also marked the introduction of Albedo and I have not read the web novels, only the light novel is currently being translated as far as I know. The only reason to read them is if you get a kick from watching this show and would like to know more and have more content and don't mind knowing what is coming in the future. I have some regrets, but seriously, it just gets so effing cool. Serious Frolicking posted:Eh, the anime cuts out a lot of the gore [...] Does it? Ninya was clearly like missing an eye in the anime there and there was plenty of blood, so I have high expectations for the next (few) episodes.

So it's a pretty faithful adaptation, then? Cool. I'll take a look sometime then. No rush because it isn't that different.

As someone else already mentioned, in the ln she was completely mangled and almost unrecognizable. You can get the idea of how she died just fine without all those extra details.

Oh yeah, they also missed the detail of her dying message and something about the sewers which was meant as a distraction (which is the actual reason why the old woman reacts all "cemetery? Why the cemetery?")

Why the cemetery?") That's just streamlining. Besides, that detail made very little sense to begin with. Exactly who were they trying to distract? Their undead army was ready before any conventional search party could have gotten started. So, the message would have been relevant only if Lizzy came home with an escort that was capable of surviving a surprise zombie attack who would then immediately rush to the sewers. Sure, the message was probably just Clementine loving around and not a serious attempt at deception but its removal didn't exactly harm the narrative.

So far it's a really good adaptation. The only thing I'm really getting from the LN are extra details (how the magic works, character backgrounds, reminiscing) which are all good on paper but most are not necessary for the anime.

Clementine tortured her for as long as she could get away with; practically flaying her alive. I guess I didn't remember the details it was described in. I assumed it was just unrecognizable as the beating was severe.

This being one of those cases. If I remember right Ainz just checks Ninya in the LN and makes some vague statement like "so thats how it is". It gets confirmed she is a woman way later in volume 6 properly but by then the reader has probably forgotten who she is.

Speaking of slimes, there is a comic (and this might sound familiar!) where a RL dude reincarnates as an overpowered jrpg monster, starts learning the setting rules, and becomes leader of monster people. It's fun, but only five chapters in. http://moonbunnycafe.com/tensei-shitara-slime-datta-ken-manga/

Just like Overlord, the Slime series is originally a web novel. It's basically completed at 250 chapters, with 96? translated into English so far. The gaiden seems to be on-going, though. There's a whole slew of these "reincarnated as a monster" titles, the most recently popular of which is Kumo desu ga, nani ka? about a girl who finds herself reborn as a monster spider in an enormous dungeon. It only started 3 months ago, but has somehow clawed itself to the top of the web novel portal's yearly ranking. 191 (short) chapters out so far, with 123 translated into English. The author's been spitting out 3-4 chapters a day, crazily enough.
