Most American/British spelling differences don't really translate to a different sounding word (outside of accent), but every time I hear an American pronounce "aluminum" it takes me a second to even realise what they're trying to say. Could be worse though. In Australia we just randomly pick American or British spelling for each different word to ensure there is no logical flow to anything. cmndstab has a new favorite as of 16:19 on Aug 30, 2015 |

Maybe it varies from state to state (will I regret admitting I'm in SA? ) but I was speaking as an Australian before and I've always seen British as the standard, with American spellings/pronounciations sometimes being pounced on. Yeah, that's pretty much what I'm saying. Sometimes we just adopt American spelling for seemingly no reason. I'm not saying it's 50/50 but it's noticeable. Also I'm from SA as well so presumably we're seeing the same words!

Where does Pall Mall cigarettes come into this? Most of the time it's pronounced Paul Maul I've found. Get a few people saying Pal Mal. The best ones though is when I get feralbogans asking for JBS It can't just be a northern suburb thing right?
