What exactly is the age cut off for a millennial? I was born in 88 and I feel like the highschool/college aged kids I know grew up on another planet. It didn't seem that way when I was their age and hung around older people. I feel like their should be a classification after Gen X but before millennial.

I heard a classification where millenials are the people who were between the ages of 10 and 20 on 9/11 and the younger ones are "digital natives", probably to differentiate the ones growing up with omnipresent social media

I'm really sick of lovely writers trying to put a positive spin on this. Millennials as a whole have no redeeming qualities, time to stop pretending they do. Their kids are going to be even more hosed up because they were ignored by their self-obsessed parents, sat down in front of a tablet since birth, and their parenting was dictated by the whims of whatever stupid blog their parents happened to be reading that week. We're hosed.

I don't need to know the quadratic equation if I know it exists and I can just look it up if I need it, for example. Moridin920 fucked around with this message at 22:15 on Aug 28, 2015 |

Yeah but a lot of millennials suck rear end at analyzing whether or not something is a good and reliable source. That's not unique to them but they rely on it more.

Sir_Charles posted:Yeah but a lot of millennials suck rear end at analyzing whether or not something is a good and reliable source. I agree there's a lot of brain dead idiots repeating the first thing they see posted online but that isn't something exclusive to millennials. Casimir Radon posted:Judging from having to peer review other students work, the oft touted millennial ability to find information is mostly confined to doing a google search, and accepting whatever they get in the first pass be it Wikipedia or Blogspot. Too lazy to even check out the materials referenced by the Wikipedia articles, or look in a book for that matter. well again, usually at least ~80% of anything (generations, genre of fiction, anything) sucks rear end. I'm sure there are many idiots but there's also a lot of successful millennials, too. There's probably more young millionaires now than at any other time in history because of venture capitalists ready to toss millions at any start up that looks okay (but I ain't lookin that up right now).

Grand Prize Winner posted:'87 is late gen-x okay i don't wanna be a millennial Nope. I was born in 1983 and I'm technically a millennial. Not sure why you'd want to be affiliated with Gen X. They were poo poo on 10-20 years ago or so. As is every coming of age generation. My brother is a super hardcore republican who owns a failing company that blames Obama for his own incompetence and he is about 6 years older than me. This whole lovely thread is basically "drat kids these days". That's never been said before. Very insightful. I'm 32. My parent's generation poo poo on all of us. They were the baby boomers. I have explained this to them and they, for some reason, actually agreed that they were poo poo. Mine aren't TOO bad though. They gave me nothing even though they were extremely well off. They didn't do anything for me, but at least they taught me some basic skills I guess. Or at least they provided so little to me that I went and found the skills on my own. I started working at 12. They are old though. 67-68 years old or so. Probably the last generation to see an almost guaranteed retirement/pension. Unless we do something about that of course. (not going to happen)
