precision posted:Hardware made me pretty uncomfortable during the fat guy watching sex scene I have had that drat song he sings stuck in my head since I watched it. Dude's gross though, and it's kind of amusing that he gets it ten times worse than everyone else for no apparent reason. I looked up some stuff about the movie and originally the robot was supposed to grab the kid and torture him to death to draw the lady to it, but they ran out of money so they just had the kid get shot in the head since it was cheap and simple. I'm guessing all those shots of the robot mutilating his body are left overs from that sequence that they managed to complete. EDIT: Sorry didn't even think about it. girth brooks part 2 fucked around with this message at 02:41 on Aug 28, 2015 |

coyo7e posted:ahh yes i see. because societal trends and opinions about what is decent versus what is indecent have not changed at all in the last 40 or 50 years And I mean when you watch a '70s Spanish horror flick you're pretty likely to see a lot of boobs and luxuriant '70s bush and the occasional floppy dick and lesbians, lesbians, lesbians. So if you're trying to imply that the genre, or film in general, was so prudish that a couple of not even immodestly dressed women was so scandalous that it would have been considered `indecent' at the time...I don't even know. It's just completely out of touch with the material. Tombs of the Blind Dead isn't pornographic by today's standards---and for gently caress's sake don't watch It Follows (2014) if the amount of skin in Tombs scandalises you---and it sure as gently caress wasn't pornographic by the standards of 1972 Spain---and don't watch She Killed in Ecstasy (1971) or The Blood Spattered Bride (1972) if you think so. Everyone else watch them though, because they own (especially The Blood Spattered Bride, which is a top-tier entry in the crowded Spanish lesbian vampire genre). Like I said, if you don't like the film you don't like the film. I disagree, but whatever. But comparing it to softcore pornography because of the way the protagonists are dressed is just weird, both just looking at the film by itself and by looking at the film in context of the genre that produced it.

Okay so I'm three episodes into Sword Art Online and does this show ever become about anything other than its protagonist's vaguely defined sense of guilt? Like so far there's been no real development of the story, no development of other characters (they keep disappearing between episodes), not much about the setting, the plot seems to jump over various things without explanation... it's like they have a good enough premise but no idea what the Hell to do with it. Maybe they're just going for a very episodic approach but it seems like a waste to go through half an hour's worth of setup for a unique premise for yet another "wandering swordsman" show. Edit: And Episode 4 is where they start having scenes of a little girl in her underwear and she reminds the hero of his sister. Yeah this ain't going anywhere good. HUNDU THE BEAST GOD posted:There is simply nothing quite like Hardware. I loved Hardware (I'm a sucker for anything cyberpunk) and I've been looking for movies that are similar. I just watched Nemesis, which is 90s cyberpunk action film. Atrocious acting and plot, but it's pretty entertaining as a b-movie. At one point the hero spins in a circle while shooting at the floor and escapes through 4 stories of a building that way. Also includes the line "You were a lovely cyborg." It has 3 sequels, and they're all on YouTube. It's not even close to as good as Hardware but there's some fun moments. Actually if anyone has suggestions for good cyberpunk or dystopic future films let me know. I've been binge re-reading William Gibson novels recently and am looking for more. Edit: I don't have much to add to the discussion on Lost Souls other than that it's definitely worth a watch. It's pretty crazy how off the rails a production can go. If you liked Jodorowsky's Dune you'll like this. Blisster fucked around with this message at 06:58 on Aug 28, 2015 |

Blue Ruin is still as wonderful as the first time I watched it. It's one of my favorite movies of 2014, which is pretty high praise considering what a good year it was for movies. It's a beautiful, low budget revenge movie that plays with a lot of the tropes of traditional revenge movies. The main character isn't some super spy Liam Neeson type, he's just a normal dude who tries to take revenge on the man who killed his parents, and he fails constantly in ways you would never see in you usual revenge flick. It's low budget, but it's still beautifully shot, and the acting is superb with a couple exceptions. The lead actor in particular gives a wonderful performance, Macon Blair I believe his name was. One movie I would compare it to is No Country for Old Men, which has a similar tone and scope, and the action is similar as well in that tense, slow burn kind of way. Not everyone will love it, but I still think everyone should give it a watch at least once.

White God showed up on Netflix last night. I enjoyed it, and the work they did with the dogs was obviously impressive, but I feel like it was a missed opportunity. With all that effort put into having all those dogs on screen, and with how unique it is to have a non-animated/celebrity voiced dog as the main character, this could have been THE movie for dog lovers. Like, 30 minutes in I'm thinking this will be a great film to recommend to my parents, who are dog lovers. That all went out the window with the dog fighting scenes, throat ripping scenes, and dogs getting shot in the street scenes. I get why that stuff is in the movie and it really is a unique film, there's nothing else like it. I think with a different tone it could have been the best "dog movie" ever though.

The Blood Spattered Bride, while not a great movie, is an incredibly watchable movie. The whole thing feels like a fevered dream. There's another movie on Netflix in the same vein, which is just as watchable, called Virgin Witch. While the name implies lots of sex, a large plot point is for the characters to maintain their virginity. There's a nudity, sure, but it's a weird story of a girl who goes to a modeling shoot only to find out it's a cover for a coven/cult to recruit a virgin for it's ceremony. Things don't go as planned, of course. Edit: I'm not sure, but I think it's a French horror movie?

The_Rob posted:Are you really just sitting around waiting for the ultimate family dog movie? No but in the first third of White God I saw the potential for it. That dog is so fun to watch and there's a real story being told there without any stupid human dialogue ala Homeward Bound. It'd be a really cool movie to be able to show kids. Oh well. Its not a great movie for dog lovers of any age because of the disturbing scenes I mentioned. Basebf555 fucked around with this message at 15:01 on Aug 28, 2015 |

Dog movies are weird. They can be incredibly profitable, critics can praise it, people will name their pets after the movie, and then they're quickly forgotten. Does anyone actually remember My Dog Skip? Does anyone remember it was young Frankie Munez and Kevin Bacon? Or how popular Jack Russells became? No. You probably don't.

I remember the dog movies that were made when I was a kid. White Fang, Homeward Bound, and Turner & Hooch being the most memorable.

Isn't there a rule for a dog movie to be good, the dog has to die? Even if it's by old age. There's always this bizarre website: https://www.doesthedogdie.com/ For some reason they don't mention a dog dying in An American Werewolf in London...

Right?? loving no advertising. I just saw a single banner ad today. I have to think they're playing some brilliant advertising move to NOT spend money and worry less about building buzz before every show and getting a following. They'll just let people find this mysterious back catalogue they have to recommend to their friends. And honestly it's the way I watch TV as well.

I finally watched Nightcrawler. I enjoyed it, but don't have much to add that hasn't been said. It's a very effective movie. During the climax I caught myself thinking, "You're not filming guy. You're missing it!" followed immediately by , "Why the heck am I cheering this on?"
