Fuck the cowboys. Unf. Fuck em hard.
i'm having a memory issue with uTorrent on win7 x64. it only shows as having a commit size of like 1-200MB, but closing it today ended up releasing 5GB of RAM. seems to happen after running it for >24hours. i assume something else is grabbing that memory since uTorrent is 32-bit. i forgot to check the all-processes bit of task manager today but as far as i remember nothing ever showed as having high ram usage during these in either task manager or resource monitor.

are there any tools that give a better overview of memory usage in windows? or some other way i can figure out what the gently caress is using 5GB of memory for no reason?

there's probably some sysinternals tools you can use, depending on how in-depth you want to investigate
rammap https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/Library/Ff700229.aspx
process explorer https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
process monitor https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/Library/bb896645.aspx

also don't forget this

were you downloading/uploading a thing to/from a slow hard drive because it'll use a lot of ram for disk cache in that case. there's a setting you can do to limit the max ram it'll use for caching

Malloc Voidstar

Fuck the cowboys. Unf. Fuck em hard.
i have utorrent's disk cache limited to 256MB
i'll look at rammap and switch to deluge if i can't find anything with that, i was avoiding doing that due to needing to copy a bunch of torrents but apparently there's a deluge plugin for importing for utorrent

well if you do that tell me how well deluge handles greater than a terabyte torrents if you can

total or a single >1TB torrent? i think i have at least 3TB in utorrent but the largest is only ~500GB
deluge uses libtorrent though so i'd think it's fine

welp my precision m4800 took a dive again, apparently the mobo that went in a couple months back was hella bad and it fried again

oh yeah and this time the internal power manager just said gently caress you and everything you own, it managed to fry everything on the 3.3v and 5v rails, including a couple thou worth of aftermarket ssds & ram

even my stupid cell went into oversurge protection brick mode, currently working on that

yay dell

yeah i reinstalled it on a whim. i forget why i was annoyed with it last time but i guess it was some interface thing? maybe? anyway it seems to be fine and consumes no resources

other than my compulsive frig-a-rigging with video settings, which madvr enables nicely
