Looking back at all of the bullshit made up specifically to fill the enormous stretches of monotonous nothingness (95% of non-deployed time), it struck me that it'd actually be loving terrifying to see what could get done if all of that huge reserve of manpower was actually used for something meaningful. Then again who the gently caress am I kidding; tell a group of 18-20 year old retards stupid enough to enlist to go in one direction and one might accidentally end up actually doing it, the rest will scatter to the loving winds with the two brain cells you could scrape up between the lot fighting over whether they should poo poo or go loving blind.

This is true. You can get coded a "U" and when you have 9 within a year of each other (1 per MUTA) you can be sent a Notice of Separation, but like everyone else said you can't use Yellow Ribbon to get around the rules about drill when you first come back.

Your story reminds me of the battalion commander I deployed under. He wanted to stand up a 24-hour TOC at the drill hall after the deployment was over to "maintain a common operating picture". It was never clear if he meant only at drill or literally 24/7 but either way it was retarded and was a factor in me refusing a company command under him. I was thrilled when I transferred back to my original unit.

Pre/post deployment health readiness assessment. God why the gently caress do I still remember that? At the time I did it, the whole thing was the usual AKO cluster-tard-gently caress of broken and obscure links, bullshit CAC card reader problems and demands to use PRECISELY one version of internet explorer, no substitutes of any kind possible not even a different (read as: not out of date) version. All of which boiled down to a bunch of 'no' check boxes so the commander could cover his rear end when someone ate a shotgun sandwich.

It's probably still exactly the same and I will laugh at you for still being in because it makes me so happy that poo poo isn't happening to me anymore.

I had a Soldier(not in my platoon) who was having trouble reaching my current 1SG- he is apparently a hard guy to reach, and myself(XO at the time) and the CO were at AT but we had email access. The Soldier was trying to get out of her rotation. We are an unusually large unit and we are doing 4 ATs this year spread across the whole company, 1/4 on each one, so the Soldiers had a choice, in May. I thought it was excellent because the ones in college went with me(july-aug) and the other ones went in the late august one. And how often do Soldiers get a choice in their AT? Unless they go to WLC, not really.

Anyway PFC Grabasandwich decides that she cannot make her AT for some reason. Fine. Let's go over what she does not do. She does not- email her commander or first sergeant asking for relief, the actual decision makers.

What she actually does and conspires with her PSG, is she gets our SGMs email and emails him directly. The PSG provides her with the "CSMs email and the option" and the Soldier takes it.

Cue the CO getting an email from the CSM. He is a nice enough guy, but he is asking questions like why didn't the Soldier this or that and we get a whole thing from him.

Okay so now she is on home station. Thing is she lives over 100 miles away. Guess what happens with home station? No LIK, no food, no nothing, just pay(to make it less desirable and to keep the Soldiers local). But no she is driving from close to philly all the way up to NYC area every time because reasons.

Later I find out that she didn't shower at NTC last year so it probably was a good idea that we didn't let her go to JRTC.

Also a memorable moment was when I has to tell someone to shower because everyone that I outranked had already asked him and he hadn't showered.

I didn't have a choice, the loving commander I went and augmented (25th SBCT) had a hardon for NTC. The guy in charge of coordination of portajohns, food, showers, whatever hosed up royally (more than the actual unit was hosed up) so for the first few days in the box we had 1 portajohn for ~200 people with 2 wagbags each. That's it, no more were given. We were also down to 1 MRE a day for about a week because they forgot to resupply. I would have done anything to take a shower, like seriously, especially after the whole "No hygiene poo poo at the water point" because some females got caught washing their hair.

Then it went to absolutely no lights at night, no glow sticks on the constantina wire so naturally more than a few of us ran into that at night. He neglected to remember that augmented personal like myself, did not have NODS, nor did a large majority of his command.

The worst part was, it was just the TOC part of the goddamn thing. Everywhere else had showers, decent nights of sleep, where he had BUB/CUB stuff going to 2300 or 0400 one morning. Didn't change shift change, didn't care bout much.

He actually flat out told me he hated me after I advised him not to create flyers of wolves attacking horses with the words "Mustangs should watch out, a Wolfpack has been reported in the area" and posting those signs all over Irwin. He and the CSM were a bunch of good ol boy redneck types that had massive hardons for the exercise but really REALLY hosed up on the whole PR side. The CO flat out refused to do any media facilitation until the OC's pretty much told him "yes you will." Where he did a total of one.

That whole rotation was hosed up, and I got lucky that the people that were helping me with my job (I was sitting in an 0-4 Slot. I'm an E-5) got me out of there a few days early. The Officer they eventually put in charge over me was a previous enlisted. You'd think he'd be cool right? No, I personally got yelled at when bullshitting with the Battle OIC and him about fun times in Germany because I said "gently caress" in one of my stories. Saw him yell at soldiers for smoking within 50 feet of a tent. Like it was super bad in regards to regulations. He made my NCOIC write down counseling to one of our two soldiers native to the unit because they forgot like 1 small insignificant thing. I ended up working so much that I didn't have time to take my meds, had a withdrawl and dropped, my NCOIC had to take over for the rest of the day and he said he was going to punch him in the face.

The best part though, was that our PSYOP OIC got caught talking with one of the bad media role players. The next day, there were flyers all over with him in his Class A's and the words "My words are more dangerous than bullets" super imposed over a scene of people dying in the street and crying. poo poo was hilarious, PSYOP got out PSYOPed.

This has to be 1-5. My CO at the time decided that payday activities didn't apply, another day that arctic family time didn't apply (despite both being a general order), he "didn't want to give the illusion that his LTs were in charge of anything", and tried to charge me for something that went missing 6 months after I left his company. He also got a few of my old soldiers killed because he thought the insurgents were too stupid to pick up on "oh, we left at the same time from the same gate 3 days in a row. Surely they haven't noticed! :downs:". He got placed as the Bn S4 after his command was up, apparently to try and teach him a thing or two about property books. Instead he voided or ignored contracts we had with some of the locals. His boss was even more of a winner, though: he had the rare honor of getting caught midstroke by his BC, rubbing one out to porn that the guy had uploaded to SIPR. That moron got fired on the spot, at least.

I'm confused why jerking off while in the army got him fired. Did the BC sit down with some JO crystals in order to join in and then noticed it was SIPR porn? Did he not realize SIPR porn used to be everywhere?
