There's a lot of stuff that's just oddly inconvenient, from overusing canned animations to only being able to look for one stronghold upgrade's parts at a time.

You're right it's a super good idea to have part of the game be holding down a button for 20 seconds, scrolling your mouse to the side for thirty seconds, then holding another button down for 20 seconds all after having to refuel the thing. It's about as exciting as if you hit a 2 minute long loading screen in order to unlock a fast travel point.

I still haven't done the story bit to get past the Jaw yet, so I'll have to wait to get it then Speaking of that story bit, anyone know if you have to have The Jack actually equipped to progress and do that mission? I've built it, but then switched back to using a heavily upgraded Wild Hunt build that i've fallen in love with, it'd be a shame if the game forced me to temporarily downgrade just to progress through that part. You just have to switch to the almost-Jack (all Jack pieces except the armour) and then go to Gutgash's place to start the mission to get the armour. After you've done that you can switch back.

Oddly enough I've found some people who are convinced this game is too batman like because of the blocking and the driving is "right out of 2006", whatever that means. So other than people who have played it or seen it and don't care, I think there's more people convinced that it offers nothing worthwhile and is just rehashed elements of other games and nothing is new under the sun yet again. Gotta completely reinvent the wheel to make a good game instead of just give you a wasteland to destroy in your own way.

Use Video Mode.

I should probably use video mode. Limping a severely battle-tested mine-layer back to base. I almost effortlessly annihilated all the escorts for a convoy, but the convoy leader seemed very wise to my mine-laying ways. It was pretty good at dodging mines and the damage I took from occasionally bumping a rock was more or less equal to the damage the convoy leader took from mines. It's fun to just back it up to a pack of enemies though and poo poo out a bunch of explosions. I play this game in first person too much and it gets me killed sometimes, but it's cool looking.

So I'll probably wait a while to get it, MGS V dominating my game time anyway and all, but I do think this looks really neat. One thing I can't quite figure out. I know the game centers around your canonical car and all, but do the assorted body changes and all actually change how it handles and stats and all? Like if I drop a big war truck style body on it will I be a big gently caress off rammer vs a sleek fast speed focused car? Related, do they all have their own upgrades or is it one global Magnum Opis upgrade thing?

Can I please make a suggestion to anyone playing on PC in 2015 Are you still using a mouse and kb exclusively? Ok.. let me tell you that in recent times consoles have done really well. Most of the modern games (certainly the ones with the massive budgets) are developed for the consoles first with the PC port coming after. But there is no console vs PC bullshit, because Microsoft holds all the cards (don't get me started in a professional context, if anyone knows me from SH/SC) and makes BOTH one of the two consoles to have AND the only PC OS to have. What this means is one of the very best controllers, the XBOX One controller, is available for your Windows PC. It plugs straight in with a USB cable and none of the functionality is lost. So, when you go to play games now.. you can just grab your controller and play on your 'console' (the game doesn't know, all the prompts and art is always there for the XBOX Controller because it's the standard). Games that didn't think about mouse and kb first don't drive you into a rage now, because you just pick up your controller and marvel at how a device specifically designed to play your games often does a far better job than a control system from the 70/80s. Do yourself a favour and go and get a controller. Yes, aiming and shooters will always be the domain of the kb and mouse and you can head back to the desk when you wanna play Ark or Rust, etc. But embrace the console revolution, because MS is at the pointy end and they just happen to be the same bros that give us the modern computer. Aiming parts of games are usually designed around the controller, so like aiming the harpoon in Max slows time right down (so you can faff around and be inaccurate with sticks). But that's fine, because you still get the job done and then you're back driving with a controller which leaves feathering WASD for dead. If it was a situation where 180 degree spins and headshots were the order of the day, then sure, I'm on mouse and kb too.. but it's just not like that for so many games. Ok, I'm done. If you have a gaming pc, then go and pick up the XBOX One controller. Plug it into your TV and sit in your lounge room on your 'console', on whicht I can alt-tab and upload screenies to SA while the game is paused.

Otherwise it's pretty great for dodging rammers and tearing people's wheels off.

I used my xbox controller a ton for batman games and Assassin's Creed and Hong-Kong Nights: Spike Dudes on Swordfish Heads, so maybe I should try it for this game. It's just that the driving is pretty chill, the melee combat is only hard mode if you're in crowded tunnels, and it's rather valuable to be able to snap immediately to a car and launch a (super OP btw) harpoon at it.

Yeah, it's better to flick the mouse and get that awesome headshot.. but mostly max is about button mashing combat and driving. I assure you these things are better on a controller. Deakul posted:But this plays perfectly with a M&KB? Me too, dude! My post is mostly aimed at someone like you. It's worth it, mate! edit: oh, and I forgot to say what I've been dabbling with recently. Controller and mouse TOGETHER, aim with the mouse and move and stuff with the left stick of the controller. Max doesn't do it quite right because there is a tiny pause between control modes but GTA5 it totally seemless. Drive with the left hand on a controller and shoot out of the car with my right using a mouse. A bit like back in the day of Mechwarrior the really crazy setup was joystick and mouse simultaneously.
