I'm loving this game but I can't figure out how to get new body types. The locked body types have very general descriptions, like for example the Die Rolla body is locked with the requirement: RETRIEVE BODY: Grit Canyons Region. Does this mean the body type is just hidden at one of the random scrap locations in Grit Canyons? Do I need to reduce the threat completely to 0 in this region? Any tips would be greatly helpful!

I really don't think there is. It's a nice mix, it keeps track of it all and you can get all OCD if you want.. but it's not required or even that beneficial in the game. It gives you plenty to do while at any point you can say gently caress this and just go and do something else with no penalty.

They are at scavenging locations. You'll see the rusted shell and use a flare to summon a stronghold to come collect it for you. All the shells are in the starting area, including the car shell you started with. Finding that one will give you a big scrap bonus instead. GOTTA CLEAN THAT MAP.

So a storm rolled while I was hitting a convoy and I spun out after destroying one of the escorts, and another was hurtling right at me, but about 20 feet before it hit me a bolt of lightning hit it and it exploded and that was the coolest thing that has ever happened in a video game. Where do you find scrap in storms? Does it have to be the ones in The Big Nothing or do the random ones on the regular map have it too? I just haven't seen any boxes or anything with the scrap symbol.

Scrap is in "lottaloot" crates that fly about in regular storms on the map, they are marked on your minimap as the scrap pickup hand sign on a gold circle and the tend to fly off when the wind catches them, you gotta harpoon them, I'm not sure if they turn up in the big nothing or in thunder/fire storms or if its just regular sand/dust storms that have them. Mokinokaro posted:There's two crews. Scrap crew is the passive one. Cleanup crew is the one that automatically collects ground scrap for you. Make sure you're not mixing them up. Scrap from the cleanup crew (the active one) is added to your total as it's picked up/spawned the second you destroy a car, the offline one is added when you load back into game, the scrap generated by strongholds is automatically added to your total every so often ( I think it might be a 20m timer?) Either way you shouldn't need to go pick it up.

The bases are dumb and hand to hand combat is kind of a chore at this point. It's just a flat out worse version of 3 year old games and doesn't really present a challenge beyond making sure you can see everyone who might be attacking you. I'm not sure why they gave some bases 'secret' entrances when you still have to run around and fight everyone. Driving is still pretty cool though. It's a weird game; there's obviously alot of care put into a whole bunch of it and there are all sorts of cool little touches. It's really pretty and the in-vehicle stuff is well done, but you do pretty much everything gameplay-wise in the first 30 minutes and the busy work doesn't give seem to give any rewards that make it worthwhile beyond soothing the OCD part of my brain.

There are some hidden depths to the car combat once you get a little further in and it gets harder, but yeah, in terms of mechanical gameplay it's pretty flat, and it lives entirely on it's theme and how that theme is presented. It's fun to have a big crunchy car fight and explore a place and the fighting is at least satisfying viscerally, but there's not a whole lot of actual game under the hood. I'm enjoying a lot it despite that. It's a pleasing loop, but I'm also a massive obsessive of crunchy apocalyptic cars and bandit ridden hellscapes, and on that front the game delivers. I entirely understand the spread of reviews it's getting, basically.

I sort of get the feeling that they wanted the resource management side to be more important, but then they go RPG lite like every game has to now and the skills and base upgrades just wreck any sort of resource management angle they may have had. The most valuable things in the Mad Max universe are incredibly plentiful - I've never worried about gas, water, or ammo besides the temporary "Oh I'm out of the five shells I can carry with me," sort of things.

At best it does capture enough of the vibe of the movies. It's got a nice amount of challenge and what it does well it does bloody well and it is entertaining and goofy. The harpoon was made to abuse Havok physics. The world is full of fascinating little speculations to what happened and you can see there is a ton of care put into this. But it sort of feels like all the time spent developing this meant everything else got left behind and was rolled into cookie cutter "raid and conquer" base missions which we've seen end on end in every single open world game. In this case it's made worse by heavily gated progression that gives you little in-game (or even character) motivation beyond "I need a faster engine". It's also curious there's no ability to sneak up on people, which would be handy . Oh and Max only being able to do a stupid hop on the spot just feels like it got added after QA complained about being stuck behind a rock. I'm hoping the story missions get a bit more interesting with the action pieces....If there even is a story beyond "mate....where's me car?" I suspect people were expecting some mode where you leap around giant nonsensical vehicles in a convoy...but that would be hard without turning it into a rail shooter or being highly scripted. It also is amusing hearing the non-Aussie pronunciation of Dinky-Di. We tend to stress the "Di" as "die" not "dee". I also get the feeling going back through the older dev interviews that much of the more survivalist elements of the gameplay did get toned down or made more convenient, such as having the garage be accessible at all times vs having players drive to one. Along with other conveniences like having Chum fix the car on the spot and setting up the outpost to give you automatic refills. I suppose it was a better solution that being frustratingly killed to death and having to backtrack and it does take away some of the tedium which sadly the game begins to deliver in spades once you start making progress. I really hate the races Tah to that Goon who linked the cheap-CD key deal. $20 is fine for this game. I can kind of see why the reviews are getting a bit fed up as beyond the initial thrill it's basically Max Mad : Checklist Warrior.

I'm totally not bothered that the plot is "Max wants a V8 engine". The plot of Mad Max 2 was essentially "Max wants petrol" so whatevs. I'm already planning a basic upgrades replay where the survival aspect will be more prominent. Just waiting to see how playing the game with all the toys pans out first, but I'm down for a low gear gimmick run of this later.
