My hope for the DLC is that if it is paid, you only have to purchase it if you want to use it in the editor. It would be extremely disappointing if they lock out levels for you to play online because you lack the proper DLC

I bought SMB3 on the wii to prepare for this game but I'm worryingly bad at it. I just remember having an excess of lifes whenever I played it on the snes.
