It DOES seem that in his later appearances in the movies, his characterization as being the sort to properly lounge on his vampire lord throne finally stuck.

(And Ultraman Max) I also watched Ryuki before, so I wasn't caught off guard, but being such a huge fan of OOO, Gaim, and looking forward to Ghost intensely, it's just a completely different show. Pretty drat good, though, aside from the cgi.

The whole thing with Nexus is that it is an examination of the Ultraman franchise, critically looking at just about every aspect, tearing down certain things, and then rebuilding them. It's not an out and out deconstruction, as that word is often misused, if only because the heart of the Ultraman franchise remains true no matter how dreary and bleak things get. So, more often than not in Ultraman, the main hero is just some guy who got fused with an alien power. In Nexus, this takes the form of a mysterious entity of light that has been going from host to host for quite a while- in the series, the power of Nexus passes between five different people. Nexus is really loving good, is what I'm trying to say. It would have been one of the best tokus ever made if they didn't get screwed by the channel. Because they got screwed by the channel, they got cancelled ten episodes or so early, meaning... The second to last host for Nexus was meant to be the main female lead, a young woman named Nagi who has a lot of anger issues and a weird connection to the power of Nexus. She was going to be the lead hero for the last chunk of the series until her anger finally got out of control and poisoned the power. So we almost got the best female toku hero ever. She still got the power, but because the entire final 10 episodes got cut abruptly, her entire hero arc was done in...an episode.

Okay so it was the wrong name since Mach wasn't the one who died. More on the show, Drive really seems like it could've used more forms or upgrades for Mach. Like he got Dead Heat pretty quickly, but then spent a large portion of the show aimlessly spinning his wheels and (spoils yesterday's episode)certainly with Chase's sacrifice and handing his toy bike over would be a cool final upgrade for Gou.
