Ignore the incendiary grenades on her hip.

or wait does she actually not wear clothes because of the whole parasite-breathing/drinking/eating thing?

As seriously, PTSD from being a loving inferno gives her a reason with actual emotional impact, bionanomachine plot nudity does not.

Just stick your fingers in your ears and yell "because Kojima" over and over again til you pass out, then all of his mindfucks in this game might start to make sense.

It's kind of fun to see it though, this game is probably the most unhinged we'll get to see a game dev for quite some time in terms of loving with the players on multiple fronts. Makes sense that Mantis features so heavily, the whole game is toying with expectations.

To be fair to Quiet at least she speaks more often than Venom 'I wonder what's for dinner tonight' Snake. Watching him stare off into space while Skull Face is just doing his whole DESTROY ENGLISH monologue was one of the worst moments in the game.

Which speaking of, I wish they had kept Hayter considering how often Kiefer actually gets a chance to act. The best acted sequence was that ending dialog bit and that ended up being cut for some reason.

Also, if true, what are the pre-reqs for the final Paz photo? Just keep doing side-ops until the 11th "get the old mother base guy back" mission unlocks?

Just before giving Paz her 10th photo (I'm off to get the 11th now, thank you) the game took so long to load I was pretty sure it got stuck and had to close it. except this doesn't really work either because in tapes he's mostly just 'there' and has no presence. Even in cutscenes he's mute like when they're torturing Quiet he's just like 'whatevs' because ???. He's rarely an active character in-cutscene or in-tapes.

even if he just nodded his head and said "mmhm" more often that would make him feel like he exists rather than being, well, a phantom.

get this: i don't agree with you at all about the tapes and think there's a solid reason for the cutscene action. in the Quiet scene he's not like "whatevs", he seems like he's holding back an impulse because he doesn't trust his own authority. he cares for quiet as a person but he knows ultimately he's meant to fulfill a role he doesn't truly have or understand, so he looks to miller and ocelot for instruction. it's not like he's just chilling and smoking the phantom cigar, he's got body language in the scene.

Once I unlocked her, I started using her almost exclusively for the ability to sleep people without blowing my cover. I haven't even touched the loving Walker, that piece of poo poo was written off the minute ghostgear blew up Emmerichs. GROM-Horse is my go-to battle gear.

The minute I unlocked my own rifle with a suppressor though? gently caress Quiet. She's not killable early on, is she? I tranq every boss tranqable, and it seemed like I had the option of putting a bullet in her face, but spoils go to the victor. :q:

D-Horse and D-Dog are definitely the true bros. And you don't even give them names. They're just tools to you. This is the reason why Big Boss is a demon, he puts living things in the item menu.

The story is great for two reasons I figure:

It makes MG1 relative 28 years later. A full loop, and explains how Big Boss seemingly cheated death for the second. Filling in a 28 year old plot hole is kind of ridiculous when you think of it when it comes to a video game series.

It also explains nanomachines and super powers, in a way. Where the technology came from anyway. Yes it's more magic, but it removes a lot of the unnatural absurdity by making it natural. They're less godcell robots and more like viral cells being used in alternative means. Visible side effects and less off screen deaths you hear but don't care about. You literally execute your men infected with the precursor to nanomachine technology. You hear about the science and experiments resulting in a bunch of deaths of innocent people, but you're never a part of it. Turns out you're the reason it even exists post-skull face. You don't exactly rush off to throw Code Talker overboard to prevent these parasites from being further researched. You get your dudes to build you a parasite suit because who doesn't want to have real ultimate power? You gave that old fart a nursing home so he can study his parasites in peace while you gain his research.

What I hated:

- Afghanistan.
- Africa.
- Enemy Gunships.
- Skull Face. Where the gently caress did he come from? No boss fight, Didn't exist until Ground Zeroes in any of the plot, builds literally the most advanced Metal Gear in the loving 70s, dies like a loving chump.
- Miller. Seriously, gently caress Kaz. I've hated him since our first codec call in MGS1. I hated him when he turned out to be Liquid. He's a lovely character, he whines, he has the worst loving ideas. He's like a father who wasn't around. He earns the name Master Miller from one of my childhood heroes and years later I find out he's the father of Raiden? That look when he rampages on Skull Face? That's definitely Jack.
- Quiet.
- Boss Fights?
- Volgin? Seriously? A) Why the gently caress do you bring him back of all loving people and B) Why the gently caress is he on fire? Why the gently caress is the flaming unicorn? The whale gets a pass.
- Psycho Tretij. First of all, Third Child is a dumb name. No backstory is dumb. No explanation is dumb. Is he Psycho Mantis? The Mantis I remember was a bald disfigured dude who definitely didn't show any signs of being a non-binary ginger. Yeah he went off with Eli and he wears a dumb mask and fits the age, but poo poo, give him a shaved head, show his eye colour, have him tell me about my steam library and my message history.
- Side Ops that aren't unique.
- Missions that are actually side ops with triggers.
- Missions that pretty much spoil the entire surprise of their own contents.
- Missions that have unmentioned requirements.
- Missions in a platform Metal Gear Solid. It works for portable systems, but uh when the gently caress did it become OK to take away the story focus the prior system brought us? I couldn't do the quarantine slaughter without destroying the tank conveys I skipped earlier. I loving dismantled the major threats already, don't rebel if you can't fight an already beaten army.
- Missions.
- The Twist. YOU ALREADY DID THIS WITH MGS2. OH HAHA YOU DON'T ACTUALLY PLAY AS THE GUY YOU THINK YOU'LL PLAY. Mind you, the timing on the punchline was different. But again, Phantom. Cigar. If it was Big Boss, it'd just say "Cigar", as the last thing Big Boss is worried about is loving cancer.
- Online so far. Okay I can raid FOBs and build nukes... but is that it? Battle for who can get the most S rank units from each other? Why would I spend real money on this. I hope MGO brings in good times though.
- Ocelot being a loving cowboy being explained by a sudden midlife crisis. Seriously, why the gently caress is he dressed like a Cowboy. Is it because Skull Face dresses like a Cowboy and it's like the good agent vs the bad agent? He was a pretty cool cat in MGS3, now he just reminds me of a Japanese guy in a cowboy hat at a casino or something. It just feels weird and try-hard.
- Not being able to use animals against my enemies. Probably cut content though.
- Cut Content.
- Cut Ending.
- Cut Battle Gear.
- Cut Hideo Kojima.
- Created and Directed by Hideo Kojima
- Enemy Gunships
- SPECIAL GUESTS
- The badass unit of soldiers in this one is composed of 4 man gank squads and a single sniper who can't even blink once for yes because she is the antithesis of women in video games.
- Chapter 2: Icarus
- The red light doors that are probably just cut content while also being FOB doors.
- Security Cameras, or rather, the lack of them.

The good:
- Intro
- Quarantine
- How badass Big Boss looks in his battle suit.
- D-Horse
- D-Dog
- Cardboard Box Sliding
- Shooting a tank with a grom while standing in a box with a soldier poster to go unnoticed.
- Random Weather effects.
- D-Dog
- Putting rodents in my pockets.
- Putting birds in my pockets.
- Shrapnel horn.
- Game play outside of menus and mother base.
- Music.
- Graphics.

We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror.
I just finished this. A couple of points:

- So Eli just fucks off into the horizon with metal gear and mantis and that's the end of that? Ok then. Was hoping for much more plot with both of those. How does ocelot end up working for liquid?

- Speaking of ocelot, he seems like a pretty chill dude in this and it doesn't really fit with the character from the rest of the series at all.

- Did we ever find out what was up with Miller's eyes? I felt sure that was going to be a plot point but it just got ignored more or less.

- So am I right in thinking Quiet wandered off to die after speaking English? That's kind of cool but it's not very clear.

- I took all the discussions about rendering the parasites inert by changing their gender as a direct example of Kojima laughing at the Chico is Quiet crowd, especially where code talker literally says 'lol no it won't make you a chick'

- Seriously disappointed we didn't get to meet paramedic/grey fox, especially seeing as one of the tapes dangles that in front of your face by saying she's in Africa working on cloning tech.

- Chapter 2 really annoyed me despite some decent bits (e.g. killing all the infected men - wasn't really evil though what else were you going to do. I don't get the objections). I'm cool with challenge missions but not in the main mission list! Keep that for story driven stuff!

- I think skull face was a pointless character whose inclusion at this stage just detracted from the game. I wish they'd just killed him off quickly and given me the fan servicey chapter 2 I wanted.

- No Eva? Really? Just really?

- Ok so venom is not big boss. Or he is, memetically, but not genetically. I saw that coming. So is big boss/his corpse in 4 actual big boss or venom? I guess it would have to be real big boss because his genes play a big part in the plot. Venom dies to solid and that's the end of him? Does DD = Outer Heaven? So what the gently caress is real big boss doing that whole time.

- oh my god it would have been perfect if Ishmael had been voiced by hayter. Missed a trick Kojima!

- So why exactly do Miller and ocelot end up enemies c. Mgs1? I feel this may be answered in the tapes and I should listen again. Just odd that kind of reasonable if a bit torturey mgs5 ocelot seems happy to go work for eli and mantis and the rest by that point.

- just the game as a whole was cool but it didn't feel like it fitted neatly into the canon and tbh raised more questions than it answered. Maybe I'd be cool with that if it wasn't the self declared swansong of the series. Was expecting a more satisfying wrap up. Oh well.

Ok well my head hurts now I'm going to go lie down for a bit. I started playing truth at about 4am like a moron and by the time I finished everything up and listened to the tapes it was nearly 7. I hope you have enjoyed my thoughts on the video game metal gear solid 5 the phantom pain.

Shame too since I kind of like it. It adds something to Venom as a character.

The monologue would have been pretty nice, adding some much needed character to Venom even if it would be at the end of the game. I'm just surprised that people assume that an absence of dialogue to the point where it's jarring is considered deep. He's just there for the ride the entire time : watching Quiet get tortured around the same time his link with her should be getting pretty high, dialogues sounding like people are talking AT Venom instead of with, the whole awkward truck ride with the theme playing that had a big gap of space because it seemed like they just outright cut whatever Venom was supposed to be saying, etc.

There's a difference between portraying someone as distant/cold from all the poo poo they've been through and lopping off 95% of the dialogue a character should have. I'm assuming the people that liked the lack of lines (not specifically people who don't like Hayter, but retards like Under the vegetable) are just as brain damaged as Venom.

Kaz sides with Cipher after MGSV to take down Big Boss, since he's pretty disgusted with Big Boss' actions (and being left out). Perhaps he agrees with the Patriots too given how he wants other people to 'be his eyes'. Ocelot joins up with Liquid who is essentially carrying out a crazed version of Big Boss' plan, but mainly to tear down the Patriots.

Liquid doesn't seem like the kind of person to let Ocelot back in, after he tied him to a chair and started to torture him.

Why did Quiet speak to save Venom? Isn't she then giving him the parasites and killing him? Or is that more of the "The occasional word won't activate them" kinda thing? Seems inconsistent, like a lot of this game. Gameplay is great, hate that it feels unfinished.

I feel like they probably should have done a better job in the intro mission of hiding the fact that Ishmael has the exact same face model as big boss but without the beard. I noticed it the day the game came out before I knew about the big plot twist. Then I replayed Ground Zeroes and noticed that there's only 2 characters on the main menu, Big Boss and the Medic, both of which turn to face the camera the moment you press the start button. That and you know, all three share the exact same voice actor.

Metal Gear 1 takes place in 1995 and the operation Solid Snake is sent on is called "Operation Intrude N312" which is on the tapes in that cassette scene. Putting Venom snake in a room still with the horn and missing arm 11 years after the entirety of MGSV takes place (Which is 1984).

After all the work you guys put in being super badass Venom Snake here is your final fate.

You would figure that for someone that writes in super detail and blows constant science smoke up your rear end he would have some explanation as to how Absolutely no one noticed that a guy with a giant black horn sticking out of his loving skull and a robot arm "supposedly" died and then rescued the survivors of Outer Heaven not only uninjured from his fight with Solid Snake but apparently had grown back his arm and removed his loving skull metal.

Then we further dig our writer's hole with more useless additions by having the counter parasite to have the effect of making you sterile and unable to have kids. But Kaz goes off to have a daughter later on in the future after MGSV.

The offensive thing about all of this is that the sterile tack on, the horn, and the missing arm have literally no purpose in the story of the game as Venom is literally tacked on into a cutscene for two seconds to show he jumped in front of Big Boss during the crash. This whole storyline could have worked with the real Big Boss instead of making another loving copy of Big Boss because the storyline of this game now consists of:

- Two Secret Clones of Big Boss
- One Super Secret clone of Big Boss
- A Female Big Boss
- Three "Deaths" of Big Boss
- Two "Big Boss is in a Coma"
- Countless "We used Big Boss's genes for <Insert Project>"
- One guy who had Plastic Surgery to look like and act like Big Boss even though his medical conditions should render that useless.
