It was fun playing against them because they all had a different play style and we all played to improve. Both our actual card skills and our poker faces and set up for the physical game. A lot can be given away through how you set cards and people don't realise this! The amount of times someone with a five card hand draws and instantly sets a card. Says so much about what you actually have in your hand. That's what I love about the game, the actual gameplay, but also the personality to the players. Now I only play sometimes with my roommate or dabble in netdecking. The locals here was meh for actual conversation and socialising. Maybe i'll try again.

Beatrice doesn't even have "Burning Abyss" in it's name so it will nuke all your BA cards (except for libic and tour guide stuff).

That card has been around for a while (I have many copies on my trade binder in fact) and so far I haven't see it being played on my locals or I know of it having topped any event. So unless that changes soon, I doubt is gonna be hit.

It's a gimmicky setup that has the same practicality as Magical Explosion FTK and Exodia FTK. It can happen, but the opponent needs to draw the right cards and even with an engine that lets them burn through a ton of their deck, it won't matter when they don't draw the card they need to continue and instead have a field of nothing that'll get blown up by any current day meta deck.

Is the banlist strictly influenced by what happens in top-level play, or do they care about decks that are just plain unfun to play against? Exodia, Magical Explosion and Blaze Fenix feel more like tossing a coin than actually playing the game.

The former, although if a card proves itself to be way too problematic for the game it can led to an emergency ban. I believe only three cards have been hit with it: Cyber-stein, Dimension Fusion and the original version of Temple of Kings

Performages are exactly what I want in a deck and I've been waiting years for this so it's going to suck when they get neutered by the banlist.  I just hope that BOSH gives us the rest of their anime support so I can enjoy them at full power before the hit comes.

Fun deck: Aquaactress Tetra x3 Aquaactress Guppy x1 Aquaactress Arowana x3 Aquarium Stage x3 Aquarium Set x3 Aquarium Lighting x3 Wetlands x2 Swap Frog x3 Dupe Frog x2 Ronintoadnin x1 Aqua Story - Urashima x2 One for One x1 And then fill out with Staples and some Aqua support. Maybe toss in a tuner (Dewdark or Water Spirit?) to get Trish or other WATER Synchros. I use a few of the Rank 2 staples, and Slacker Magician. I use Storming Mirror Force/Air Force to deal with cards like Ragnazero and other lockdown cards.

Rank 4 are fine if you'd remove Castel, Shark and maybe Infinity-enabler, create archetype specific variants if you want just don't have them be generic. I remember back in Dragon Ruler meta when Maestroke Djinn was still a relevant card.

Honestly most of the rest of the cards I use are there to prevent my opponent from doing anything. I also use cards like Parallel Twister, which I can use to special summon one of the AAs I dumped to the graveyard and also pop one of his cards.

Castel is a problem because it doesn't matter how the card is left, it'll get spun anyway. Infinity and now Rafflesia coupled with an incredible R4 engine has given rise to a hideous monstrosity of a deck. And it's a loving anime deck. Anime decks shouldn't be that good.

I still say Performages are only as good as they are because of the OCG's exclusive rank 4s, and I still think they won't have anywhere near the same success in the TCG. Without Utopia the Lightning/Rafflesia/Cyber Dragon Infinity/Lavalval Chain/Shock Master, they're limited to more defensive plays and can't set up an aggressive turn 1 field like they can in the OCG. I'm sure we'll see some Performage decks doing okay in the TCG, but they won't be nearly as dominant as they are in Japan. EDIT: For the record, TCG has bigger problems to deal with anyway.
