The difference between me and freepers is that I don't blame the workers, I blame the greedy owners and lax regulations.

Of course, I cook in restaurants in California so I'm 100% aware of this fact. I was more making a joke that freepers would like to see black people back in the fields.

What a weird straw to grasp at; black people only make up about 10% of the population. Even if 25% of black people support Trump, that's only something like 6 million people, mostly in the South in states the GOP already controls.

What's amazing is that according to Gallop he's managed to piss of 86% of Hispanic people, which is about 43 or 44 million people , mostly concentrated in the south-west and Florida , and all he can think to do is repeat the same stupid bullshit that cost the GOP California , New Mexico, Colorado and Nevada, and is rapidly losing them Florida, Arizona and Texas.

People sure have a hard-on for laying blame at the feet of migrant fruit pickers who travel thousands of miles each year to follow crop schedules/locations, sometimes work to death on modern day plantations, and so on. Yes, they are "stealing jobs" from citizens that would do the work at proper minimum wage, but it's 100% the fault of the greedy, immoral assholes that choose to exploit illegals by paying far less than the required minimum or-- worse yet-- pennies per tomato harvested.

Not sure how trustworthy that poll is however if Bush had gotten 25% of the black vote in 2000 he probably would've won without stealing Florida or at the very least he might've gotten the popular vote. If the GOP got even 20% of the black vote in 2016 that would be pretty huge considering what the break has been for the last several elections decades.

The Republican Party is really loving good at alienating former Republican voting blocs if those blocs aren't white men. Hispanic people trend religious and used to fairly reliably vote Republican until the 70s or 80s, but are now a strong and solid Democratic voting bloc. Black voters drat near voted 100% Republican until the 1930s and a big chunk of them continued to vote Republican until 1964; nowadays black voters support the Democrats by over 90% in most elections. Muslim-Americans voted almost entirely for George W. Bush in 2000, and are now a near-unanimous Democratic support stronghold less than two decades later.

It's going to come back to gently caress them in the rear end eventually; their electoral strategy for the last 40 years or so was built around basically being a single-ethnicity party, in a country where that ethnicity is well on its way to not being a majority anymore.

Agreed except it's not pennies per tomato, it's pennies per POUND of tomatoes.

I still kinda chuckle when I remember deep south states having millions of dollars of produce literally rot on the ground because they decided they didn't want "illegals" picking crops anymore and no sane American citizen (even those on unemployment) would do it for the wages they offered.

But as many conservative talking heads have pointed out, if businesses paid fair wages places like Mc Donald's would have to start charging $2 per hamburger instead of $1! The economy would be ruined! RUINED!

Not like those are the only jobs no one wants. Vlasic has a huge huge turnover rate because no one wants to work minimum wage to be in a 120 degree plant full of humidity and noise (and god help you on a jalapeno day since there's really no air circulation) busting your rear end in two layers of clothes while being treated like poo poo. We could just go back to the "some fruits and veggies are only available/economical for part of the year"? That way farms dont have to be so massive and a traditional farm staff can handle the load.? Boom, work dries up and america doesnt provide the prospect of a better life for immigrants anymore. Of course literally changing market demands could never happen.

The freepers/baby boomers have only themselves to blame for creating stingy massive corporate agriculture because they wanted watermelon in febuary. I also think the government had something to do with it because army draft boards had to reject too many potential soldiers for being malnourished, small and skinny.

BALTIMORE (AP) — The family of Freddie Gray, who died after being critically injured in police custody, reached a $6.4 million wrongful death settlement with the city of Baltimore, resolving civil claims about a week after the first hearing in the criminal case against six police officers, officials said Tuesday.

Six Baltimore police officers face criminal charges stemming from Gray's death. Gray, who was black, was critically injured April 12 in the back of a prisoner transport van after he was arrested. His death sparked protests, rioting and unrest that shook Baltimore for days.

Considering that this thug would have got dead at some point his odds of living until the age of 85 were slim to none as proven by the fact he did get dead at age 25.
