I think the concrete squares/metal and glass oligarch dickwave pieces/HGTV stepford nightmares have burnt out my sense of architectural taste, because I like the mayan head, suspended metal pods, and alien forest pods.

peanut posted:Asahi Beer Headquarters, home of the Golden Poo Speaking of architectural failures, that's the Tokyo Sky Tree in the background there. It's not that it's ugly or badly made, it's just really poorly marketed. It's the second tallest man made structure in the world and I had never even heard of it until I went to Tokyo and even then only because I saw it looming in the distance. You'd think the whole point of building something so tall would be for international prestige or to bring in tourists, but I guess they just felt like it?

It's mostly a broadcasting tower designed to "see" over the rest of Tokyo's skyscrapers. Tokyo tower is way more famous as a landmark anyway. Also, you're wrong and it's hideous. It looks like the front half of a 1960's TV "laser gun" prop.

They also charge an absurd amount to ascend it, too. $20 to go 3/4 the way up, another $10 to go to the upper observation deck. There's also another $5 if you book in advance and specify a time instead of turning up and hoping you don't have to wait too long before they allow you up.

Thankfully the real building appears to still be an architectural failure so it all balances out.

Tunga posted:This doesn't prove that it's a shop. What is the implication, that a real image was flipped? The one with the letters has windows in the reflection which don't match the "real" photo. I'm not convinced these are taken in the same place. It could still be a shop, of course, or a prank, or whatever. I think we can agree that it isn't a real sign that someone designed because you'd just move it all over a couple of letters and it'd fit. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZshMwU2-HCM An explanation, or a yet more elaborate prank.
