For example, every Friday teams must announce which injured players are doubtful, questionable or probable to play that Sunday. Teams usually take 53 players to the game and announce, 90 minutes before kickoff, which seven are inactive. But sometimes, at Saturday-night meetings, Belichick tells his staff which players on the opposing team were not on the flight to New England, a source with knowledge of the meetings tells SI. It’s not clear how Belichick knows. But he does. ahahaha bill puts spies in airports to gain 12 hours of info

the best part of the SI article is how they point out everyone is so loving paranoid of what the patriots might be doing that they waste a ton of time and attention guarding against it, meaning even the cheating Bill's not doing gives the patriots an advantage

I don't get why the Pats don't embrace the fact they are so good at bending the rules their coach is doing poo poo most people do0n't even think to check for. It's much more charming than "we're the best ever hurrrrr"

Pats are evil. Sadly they are still only the sixth most evil team, due entirely to non-football reasons. Being a Pats fan, however, is still hard to understand. Please explain it to me. Is it just because they win? There has to be more to it.

I watched them eat poo poo for years, finally get to SB XXXI, lose to Farve and then a few years later, they become amazing. Also, this EATIN SHRIMP posted:Know what's the cool thing though? quote:The narrative that paralleled the Patriots' rise -- a team mostly void of superstars, built not to blow out opponents but to win the game's handful of decisive plays -- only increased rivals' suspicions. After all, the Patriots had won three Super Bowls by a total of nine points. Although Belichick admitted to Kraft that the taping had helped them only 1 percent of the time ("Then you're a real schmuck," Kraft told him), the spying very well could have affected a game, opponents say. "Why would they go to such great lengths for so long to do it and hide it if it didn't work?" a longtime former executive says. "It made no sense." This is a real missed gem from that article

Mel Mudkiper posted:I don't get why the Pats don't embrace the fact they are so good at bending the rules their coach is doing poo poo most people do0n't even think to check for. That's my view on it and has been for a long time. But as has been noted, there are a lot of terrible sports fans out there all around. I am in a 48-team baseball fantasy league using Diamond Mind Baseball (a couple of goons are also in it) and spent 3+ years on Rules Committee. It was basically nonstop dealing with loopholes people would find and determining if there was any sense in changing rules as a result, or people lobbying for rule changes because certain owners got better at working them than others. Basically, it's exactly what the NFL is like, only our commissioner isn't an imbecile constantly throwing temper tantrums because he lets his ego get in the way. Anyway, once people figured out how someone was taking advantage of a loophole, they'd start just making up in their head what you're up to. Like I came up with a method for countering the annual draft by trading players for picks when players are more valuable, then trading the picks back for players at the end of the season when picks are more valuable. Since we can only lose 6 players in the draft, I'm constantly ahead of everyone else. After a while, some owners would suspect on every trade offer I sent them that I had some secret master plan in play that was going to screw them over. And oh yes, there have been plenty of propaganda wars trying to instill the idea that owners are cheaters or their way of playing is invalid for however they're working the system. In other words, it's pretty much what the NFL goes through, only we have no money in play, and it's a silly fantasy league. So I can only imagine how bad it is a the professional level. I think sports fans are out of their minds if they think their team isn't cheating, working the system or trying to at least bend the rules in some way. As a lifelong Pats fan, I adore Billy Five Aces for being the dirtiest player in the game. Also, we have a rule in place to cover "spirit of the league" violations and it has been used once in about eight years.

The Patriots are good at NFL football and this is fun to watch. It is also fun to watch how super stupid their opponents often are, e.g. Harbaugh having a nervous breakdown over a couple trick plays to the point he gets flagged for it, Carroll gifting us the Lombardi through sheer mental spaz-out, etc., etc. and so on. And honesty the butt fumble game by itself fully justifies being a Pats fan forever because that was the funniest loving thing impersonating a sporting event in history, and I saw it live and it's still funny.

My school makes us go on "fellowship retreats" every year and one event is an Amazing Race There is no prize, nothing happens if you win, and its supposed to be just for fun. I win almost every year because I bend the rules on that mother fucker like no one would believe. The camp had to change some of the games because I spent a week before the retreat figuring out how to break them. What I am saying is, if it ain't specifically illegal, do the gently caress out of it. Smokey Yunick that poo poo.

So from what I read literally nothing the Patriots did aside from continuing to tape signals from the sidelines past the 2006 memo was actually against the rules. The rumors of stealing playsheets and poo poo have been around for years with literally no evidence to cooberate it. Which is what has been known for years. Why is this news?
