Does a bear split in the woods near Zheleznogorsk?

ManMythLegend posted:

That's not to say that we can't have a viable military strategy without that ability, but losing it is a significant game changer and simply dismissing it because it's hard and/or dangerous is dumb.

That's not my reasoning. My reasoning is because we've done it in exactly two wars and feinted it once, yet it's literally driving the defense posture (through long-term acquisitions) for the next half century. We are losing actual critical capabilities in favor of a mission that is almost certain to not be used. But I'm not even saying give up the amphib mission entirely, they just don't need a floating runway with high-performance fighters. The Marines will not be establishing air superiority. The USAF/USN will. AND providing most of the CAS anyway.

Just want to say that I've participated in multiple wargames, COCOM level exercises, and a couple of smaller exercises including Bold Alligator (a poo poo show) in the last two years. I am confident that the Marines are not entirely sure how they're going to execute the mission in near-peer environments, don't fully understand the Navy capability and limitations, or are not honest in wargaming assumptions. I spoke with an Ellis group Major about some of my concerns during one such wargame and he basically hand-waved the concept. During one event, the Fires Cell had a cabal of Navy dudes who over the course of the week migrated into one corner and were openly dissenting about proceeding with big glaring questions remaining unanswered.

Dude the marines haven't ever given a gently caress about war games. You remember General Van Riper and his speed of light motorcycles?

Travel day of 3m assessment: flight delayed due to flight attendant getting sucked out the door while the cabin pressurised on the tarmac. She was okay because it was only a 6ft drop, but that door just popped open when she touched it. I had one of two seats that could see this, but my BMC missed it because she was reading a book.

This inspection is off to a good start.

Yeah, already have my applications/essays for school as well as a few gigs lined up in some neighboring towns. I had a good laugh when they had me put in a C-way package anyway and it came back to me (along with every other person I know in my NEC that put one in) that I needed to cross-rate to MM, MA, CT, or IT. They're still having me take the exam, even though the last times I've taken it I've scored higher on the test itself than some of the people that picked up but didn't have enough bake sales under my belt to make up the point or two to advance. Even if I pick up I'd spend roughly a week as a third class before I start terminal.

How about you? Re-enlisting for the sweet bennies?

In other Navy news besides a baby SWO got PTSD from being yelled at, I may get hosed out of taking the third class exam due to the special evaluation written for me by ECS never being routed to my gaining command. If they lied and never did it those NMT's were committed to the lie as the one who wrote it asked me if admin had sent back my eval for me to sign whenever they saw me and another gave me instructions to go to PSD at my gaining command immediately as it was being routed there. Thankfully they wrote me an eval here but wait we can't use that because I arrived after September 1st which the admin Chief stated to have been their deadline for it to be accepted. They won't give me worksheets without an eval. Now people above me are making phone calls and trying to track down anybody in Gulfport who can help out.

This is making a very positive impression on me as a junior sailor. Also, anybody who wants to tell me "Lol you believe what you were told" or "Lol you didn't get a phone number for the person who wrote it", gently caress you, I've been in the Navy since breakfast and haven't played "Dirtbag Adventure" to become disenchanted and convinced everything is a waste of time.

If you joined the french legion you would be getting hosed in the rear end by a big slavic dude right now, instead of getting figuratively hosed in the rear end, it would be real, is your rear end in a top hat ready for that?

Hey, to the LHA/B mission, why not make them skii jump carriers, since they don't have catapults, that way we could not use the expensive VTOL option, and comedy option, buy sea griphens for them, so the marines have their escorts? I mean at least the idea of LCS makes sense, something cheaper to do things like escort tankers and fight ships, a navfiied High Endurance Cutter except without the WW2 era design, with a few missile tubes to fight off choppers and fast attack boats.
