Deal with it.
You know I don't actually know, but I don't know enough about other countries population history to start boasting about how Ireland is the only country to have a lower population now than a hundred and fifty years ago.

If that is a boast at all.

Other countries that might be candidates are Ukraine before the Holodomor and WW2, and DR Congo before Leopold II.

Genghis Khan murdered so many people that Iran reached the same population it had in the early 1200's in 1950's.

You know, just to compare population extremes.

If they were consistent with the wording and used "on" for both the red and blue items I'd disagree but since they didn't then ... yup

Um, I can't find anything about that, can you show me? I remember hearing something similar but that the population recovered to pre-conquest levels in the 1500s. It hard to get info on this kind of thing but this Wikipedia page says the pre-conquest population was 2.5 million, so in 1950 they were far above that.

According to the Russian Empire's census in 1897 Ukraine had about 23.5 million people. The 1937 Soviet census was suppressed because it clearly showed that there were a bunch less people in the country than there should be ~for some reason~, but the 1927 one lists 29 million people in Ukraine. Then in 1950 its about 37 million but this is largely due to the increase in territory as the Soviet Union took over areas in the west. Still the population went up rapidly until it peaked in the late 80s to almost 52 million. Since then its dropped to only 44 million. Don't know anything about Congo unfortunately.

Berber languages aren't Semitic languages, they're one level further away in relation :smugdog:. Most people of Berber descent (AKA most people in Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco) speak Arabic today though

The Bhutanese government kicked out like an eighth of their citizens recently, there's been a huge diaspora.

In 1830 too (even if that revolution ended up putting another king on the throne). Louis XVI was the only king who actually got killed, after that French kings just got the hell out the moment they realised they weren't in control anymore.
