I love that song, but hearing my goddaughter belt it out for several hours straight at her birthday (off key 4 year old for teh w1n), I think my ears are still bleeding. I can only imagine the birb rendition...I would probably be pondering the benefits of how long it takes to cook said birb. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uJzOj89RMOU According to the video description, baby hummingbirds are intentionally plumped up just before they fledge. That way they have the (incredibly rare for hummers) luxury of some extra fat to live off of during their first independent days. It comes with the side effect of making them as graceful as a bowling ball.

Scout is moulting like crazy again, yesterday morning there were 20 feathers at the bottom of her cage, today there was only a dozen. She is super sensitive to all the pinfeathers though and is kind of cranky and bitey.

Car ride home, only picture with good lighting, sorry, Android phone with a bad camera Hanging out on top of the cage Immediately down to snuggle /w my wife: squark We're not really decided on a name yet. We name all of our pets after breakfast food, it's hard to not go for the immediate egg pun

Welp, I thought I had two female parakeets. Potassium took a shine to a hole in a storage box, which I thought was cute and harmless until she got broody, so I broke out the dummy eggs and made her a little sittin' spot with her own food and water. Figured the whole thing would pass. The dummy egg company gave me six eggs. She laid six more. And time passed. Curiosity Rover Jones, who I have to believe is now a he, started getting antsy a week ago, taking to hang at night on the outside of the cage nearest to Postassium. And just tonight, I hear a sound I've managed to prevent for 15 years, scree, scree, scree. I'm enchanted of course, but scared because I wonder if I should try to boil/freeze the remaining eggs and replace them. Will this trigger Potassium to lay more eggs, or disrupt the nest too much so that she abandons her baby? The question is whether poor Potassium can handle raising more than one baby without making her too weak. She's a good strong bird, but I worry so. The male has not figured out how to feed the mother through the hole in the nesting box, so she's on her own in there with the food I leave her. The cage is quite big. It has two parakeets in it, and it can handle probably four to six very comfortably, and I leave the door open for several hours a day, minimum. We had a tabletop gaming session today and I had Boop out for a bit to hang out with everybody. She eventually made her way over to one of the dude's shoulders who had been away from the sessions for the last few weeks and hung out with him for the rest of the time she was out, cuddling up and everything. It's probably my bias but baby cockatiels are maybe the cutest thing in the world The little stubby crest and the big dark eyes. And he's doing that fluffed out belly thing to cover his little dinosaur feets aaaagh I can't manage it Is he a cinnamon? I can't tell if he's got that softer light gray like Judah or if it's the lighting.
