4) The server has a hiccup. All of a sudden your freighter is sitting on the undock and aligning towards a safe spot and no amount of button mashing will make it stop. The freighter may or may not have an aggression timer. People take pot shots at freighters all the time. Then when you get back in. It slowly starts aligning back to "about" where you started.

I kinda get that what Grayscale wanted. The idea of convoys could be another great content opportunity if done right, so I'm wondering.. Would there be a way to do it right?

Freighter escorts do not work because the people who attack them do not care if they die.

In the real world you can escort transport vehicles because as long as there are armed enemies on the field. The vehicles themselves will not be attacked. So the cargo is the last thing to be attacked as long as you keep them unarmed.

In Eve people will go for the freighters first and ignore the escort and then die laughing.

Makes sense. I hadn't thought about it along those lines. Do you think anything could be changed to try and affect this outcome? For example, logistics trying to keep the freighters alive, or buffing the resists so that the attackers have to kill some of the escorts or else they won't break the tank before too many of them are dead?

The only way I could see freighter escorts work would be if the game had some sort of escort beam that made the users ship take damage instead of the target. So 10 battleships would use the beams on a T1 freighter and then logistics could repair the battleships who would receive the split damage that the freighter would normally take.

Or a supercap uses the beam on the freighter and follows it around.

But regardless all of this would still be terribly boring so I don't see why we're brainstorming to make it work.

I agree and I'm not saying convoys are a better idea, it's definitely not, I just don't like how if the JF doesn't get tricky tricked into jumping into a red station or gets DCed or warps to a known problem gate that it's nearly 100% risk free.

From a (mostly) outsider's perspective, escorting juicy targets like that is pretty much impossible unless the escorts can prevent the freighter from being targeted or redirect/absorb damage that is targeted at the freighter. The other alternative is to bring a big enough fleet that you can handle anything that might be out there, which guarantees you get yourself blueballed.

Escorts seem like a cool idea in a "the first transport is away" way, and probably in a similar circumstance (emergency evac, taking a new staging system) they could be, but freight gets moved every day, and being the defender's never more fun than being the attacker.

Oh also, despite the monotony of sitting on a button waiting for a timer the new sov system isn't super terrible when you're hitting unused systems or systems people are refusing to defend. I'm still a bit surprised CCP didn't include a "self-destruct" function from day one but whatever.

We were bored tonight and watched Se7en and Edge of Tomorrow while reinforcing peoples space in Delve/Querious and ganking their dudes trying to stop us. Which is why when this poo poo gets posted I cant help but think people are being super dumb about the new mechanics/system and just want to see a ban against a specific group of players. There's utterly unused/unlived in space and people are mad because they're not using it, and thus losing it to people who want to take it.

The reason for all the stagnation posted:

This picture is the reason why null is stagnated, why the recent provi campaign didn't feel like it really mattered and why eve is losing players faster than ever.

When you join as a noobie you look at the alliance list and imagine how awesome and dynamic the nullsec environment must be, you see all the massive multi-thousand character alliances and wonder how interesting and dynamic all the struggles between them must be. Then you find out that all the alliances at the top of the list are actually one big allied bloc and there is no dynamic struggle nor are there any great wars anymore. That realization is the single biggest disappointment that newbies have when they sign up to an eve they thought was filled with dozens of factions bent on creating content and wars.

He faked military service so someone would buy him a jump freighter (iirc), He's the forum equivalent of an American Lee ChanKa (not sure if you were in PL at the time for this to make sense, forum search 'steroid sharks'), functionally retarded and he's that 'let me tell you all about wormholes' guy. Aside from the military service thing, none of it's really anything ~most~ terrible EVE pubs aren't guilty of at one point or another- he's just somehow worse.

There's a special place in hell (or where ever) for people that think explaining wormhole mechanics to people is like saying they've discovered fire. If you're at that point in EVE where 'most' things make sense and you have a decent grasp of 'How to Play Spread Ships/Space Sheets', nothing in wormholes is oddly complex or obfuscated. Just like everything else in EVE there have been guides on wormholes since wormholes have existed, and slightly before if you were in the right alliance.

Cruisers are where it's at, though almost everything sub battlecruiser is viable. For smaller groups it's all about kitey ships that won't expose themselves to risk while picking off stragglers. In larger fleets it's t3s or faction battleships. The best way to deal with sov is to ignore it and play somewhere else.

Ship meta is small ships, tech 3 destroyers, and cruisers (T1, T2, & T3). Battlesruisers are about to get a buff and might become a decent option again. Battleships are still dead.

The new sov system worked out extremely poorly because it made zero-effort attacks way too effective, and the carrots are still in development while the stick is in full effect. Several groups took sov space and then quit out again because it was a lovely treadmill. The only people who enjoyed it were people who didn't own sov. (And to a limited extent us in the imperium because we suffered less than most others.)

But fixes are inbound! Trollceptors are finally gonna get axed completely by blocking inties from even being able to fix the entosis link. Sov stuff will "heal" itself so sov-trolling with no force or follow up will be pointless. And pheobe jump fatigue is being scaled back, at first by knocking the fatigue cap down to 5 days. So basically all the stuff we've been saying here for the last 6 months. If I didn't know better I'd think this thread was the new design document.
