Do locked ATT/GoPhones work with Cricket sims?

tonic posted:Is there still a way to get the advanced 20gb plan? No but you can bounce from the 5gb->10gb->5gb to get 20 gig of LTE for roughly $50 per month, its just a bit of a pain. I bounce from to 2.5 to the 5 and back if I run out. You can do it with mobile web just not their app. Even when you run out the speed is still decent for anything besides video or heavy web pages (like the 50mb Verge pages). Using the adblock browser actually makes the slow unlimited decent for many pages without video.

Weird question, but can any straight talk phone work in any straight talk area? Reason I ask is that's the ONLY carrier that works where my mom lives, but the selection of phones on the website for her zip is kinda horrible, whereas the selection for my area is a lot better. Thinking of upgrading her, but didn't wanna waste the cash if it's some kinda weird regional lock for the handsets.

I'm thinking about jumping to tmobile nerd plan because of the unlimited music streaming, and also because cricket has a problem with delayed texts. Don't know what's up with it but across two different phones now I'll sometimes get texts anywhere from 5-3 hours late. It's really lame.

Stupid_Sexy_Flander posted:Weird question, but can any straight talk phone work in any straight talk area? Her area probably only supports Verizon service which is why you see the difference. It's stupid that they don't clearly differentiate between them. Honestly, you should figure out the service first and then just buy a compatible phone.

How does one go about figuring out what service covers what area? I don't think it's verizon, because the girlfriend's verizon phone didn't work up there. I know it's not tmobile cause my phone didn't work up there, and the at&t repair guy's at&t phone didn't work up there either. It's like some hosed up magical mystery spot where only certain lovely things work, like ghetto prepaid phones. She was on tracphone for a while, and moved to straight talk, if that helps.

My parents live in an area where (local area name Wireless) is an AT&T reseller, and they get the only cell reception you can possibly get in the area, but my Cricket phone gets nothing there.

Syrinxx posted:Yes but that was rooted/CM12 so I imagine that's why. I was kind of hoping to move past rooting every device I owned but this kind of sucks There was probably some kind of header/user-agent fudging going on with your CM ROM to make it look like you weren't tethering. IIRC Koush made something that made tethering work while making the data look like it was just the phone and not tethering, though that was way back in like 2011 or possibly further.

I just ordered a sim from Smartel. I went with the Pink Gold Promo Plan (what a terrible name.) I was with Cricket and having issues with texts as well. Hopefully it goes well, it looks like a bit of a risk since they appear to be reselling tmobile postpaid accounts like Harbor Mobile was. Has anyone else switched ?

Anyone have experience with crickets new Canada calling/texting? I'm going to Quebec City this week and I am wondering if it would be worth it to bump up to the 5gb plan that gives access to that calling (currently on 2.5gb plan). Is it just voice+text or data too?

I'm waiting to get a replacement debit card and my Cricket plan runs out tomorrow, is there any way to pay with paypal or something? I know there's cards you can buy but I'm not sure if there's any stores near me that carry them.

Also a few liquor stores and payday loan places. They’ve really got penetration of a certain market for those cards in the Midwest.

Has anyone posted this offer for redpocket? http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2015/09/red-pocket-now-selling-one-year-plans.html?m=1 200 bucks for one year of service. You can choose between Verizon and sprint and ATT networks. It comes with 1gig data per month but it appears the data is completely cut once you go past it. I might get this because I'm looking to get another line just for work. ATT doesn't get signal at work but Verizon does.

Considering getting my wife a Surface 3 (or holding off to see what new is released in the next few months) and she wants to get LTE. What are my options with this that are reasonable? She would not be using a lot but I am completely ignorant on what is available that isn't a complete ripoff (AT&T direct, etc). Thanks!

I didn't see many tablet-based plans when remaking the OP, unfortunately. The ones that tether should work fine though. If you want something data-based, Cricket's Pro Plan is still the plan to beat if you want data. lostleaf posted:Has anyone posted this offer for redpocket? Looking through those comments, it looks like RP's not that good of an MVNO and this isn't a very good deal. Apparently they have constant issues when something new comes out...like changing their CDMA stuff to LTE. Though, I didn't know they had Verizon CDMA, I'll add that into the OP later today. We are already on Cricket, so that would be a great solution but she currently cannot tether on her iPhone 6 from the Basic plan. If I upgrade her to the Pro plan will it automagically become available? Tehthering would be an ideal solution to be honest.
