He can be fired for cause if he "engages in any fraud or dishonesty while performing [his] duties" (for one thing, he blatantly lied to city officials while addressing them in his official capacity just last week). Also "any conduct... that the President reasonably determines is unbecoming to the Athletics Director, or which reasonably brings in to question the integrity of the athletics director" (I can think of a few things). Michigan had a massive case against Dave Brandon which could have led to Dave being fired with cause, but they elected to go with the mutual agreement for him to resign. On the other hand, going by Joe Jamail's past history, I doubt Texas or its boosters are going to concede if Patterson fights back.

When I think of Steve Patterson I don't think of a guy who passes up an opportunity to get money for the sake of something like dignity. I don't know, the paragraph on "fraud and dishonesty" seems pretty limited to documents, and "unbecoming conduct" seems like a catch-all phrase designed to deal with off-the-wall, unanticipated personal stuff (think Bobby Petrino at Arkansas). The language is definitely broad enough to make an argument for termination for cause, but I'd truly be impressed if you could make it stick. But, on the other hand, maybe an argument is all you need if your goal is a favorable settlement. My main takeaway from looking at that contact is pure shock and disgust at how difficult it is to fire an incompetent rear end in a top hat who's making 1.4 million a year. I am truly in the wrong profession!

Texas would be crazy to try and fire for cause, the amount of dirt that would be pulled up during the discovery phase of a wrongful termination lawsuit is more than enough to pay whatever the full amount of his buyout is.

gently caress that, I hope they go for it and it just turns into the messiest clusterfuck possible until the whole thing is inexplicably settled by a Quick and the Dead style pistols-at-dawn duel. Granted, I also just want Texas to keep being kinda bad so that UCLA can keep plucking highly-rated recruits out of there.

God Jamail is just the coolest. I don't even know where to start with quoting amazing poo poo from this article, but this should give you a sense of who we're talking about.quote:In depositions, with no judge around, he’s hit attorneys in the face and called countless more witnesses “rear end in a top hat” than just the one who testified against Eubanks. He once took a $675,000 judgment against Sears into the retail chain’s downtown Houston location, commandeered the intercom, and informed employees that he’d just taken over the store.

I just finished Endzone by John U. Bacon about Dave Brandon's tenure at Michigan and it's an extremely good read as long as you can get past Bacon's constant U of M "Michigan Man" dicksucking. Brandon is a world class buffoon and while the cliffs notes tell most of the good bits, it's worth reading the whole thing just to get the complete picture of what a jackass the guy is.

What's amazing is that there's even more stories out there, those were just the best ones that could push the story along and were confirmed by multiple people involved. Brandon is truly an incredible jackass, and it continued after he left Michigan, by having various Detroit-area business writers bash the university in ghostwritten newspaper columns over how much of a genius Brandon is and how abused he was by all the mean people at Michigan. What a jackass.

Starter LeShaun Daniels is questionable with an ankle injury he suffered early against ISU. Supposedly they got good news on he and Ott yesterday, but Ferentz still called both injuries "significant" and Daniels has a long injury history so I'm not holding my breath. Now nominal third string back Derrick Mitchell has been suspended for some unknown code of conduct violation (which in the past has often been a prelude to the player transferring or getting chucked off the team but I have no idea how serious this one is). This leaves the Iowa's running back situation as less than ideal Apparently, Mitchell is now reinstated? Very odd. Wonder what that was all about? We need him.
