You know what, that's a fair enough opini- quote:Truth be told... is he wrong? Im sorry, but when a person is knowingly eating their life away, they are not only endangering themselves, but also spending taxpayer's dollars by using up socialized medical care if they get clots or heart attacks at 29. Why have an emt who could be out rescuing a gun shot victim but they had to call in saying "Oh, sorry. We had to transport a patients who had a heart attack after eating a 4-pound burger". It's literally a preventable issue.

canyoneer posted:I always feel guilty when I go to the hospital, because the doctors could be off somewhere rescuing plane crash victims instead I was once the most badly injured person in the ER at the time, it was actually quite interesting how much the staff ignores the minor cases in favour of real patients. Also, being in a small town ER that only has 4 beds separated by curtains lets you listen in on every other ongoing patient case, and it's kind of sad what people go to emergency for.

https://imgur.com/gallery/qpNZ7 This one is just full of fantastic quotes, like quote:This image is the kind of poo poo conservatives face every day - the assumption that they're all, in essence, bad people. I know arch conservatives that are not. They have professional jobs, they have a college education, they love their family, they love their country, they pay their taxes, they have no criminal record, they volunteer, and they just so happen to oppose gay marriage. Ah yes let's cooperate and compromise with people who want to oppress an entire segment of the population because quote:Even when I was a bright-eyed, staunch, avowed Democrat, I wasn't so stupid as to ignore the fact that the media has a left-wing bias. The party does have a media bias and that's plainly evident - you don't see Hollywood actors standing up and openly proclaiming their opposition to gay marriage, their opposition to immigration, or how much they dislike Obama. I'm pretty sure they aren't openly proclaiming their opposition to gay marriage because it's a completely retarded viewpoint for completely retarded people

Saying "the Reddit community" is really loving stupid because there are a million subreddits and pretty much everyone uses it. It's like saying "the Facebook community" or "the Youtube community".

Every single time anyone here mentions the Reddit community, some one feels the need to point out that Reddit is actually several different sub-communities and that majority of users are normal people doing normal things. Like, sure, ok, we all get that. It's still a place that's extremely vocal with it's racism, homophobia, misogyny and just general gross poo poo.

Why bother making fun of terrible poo poo on the internet if you're not going to go all the way about it? I can't possibly enjoy seeing terrible poo poo getting ridiculed if not all the terrible poo poo is getting ridiculed equally. I mean yeah there's horrible turbobigots on reddit and imgur, but there's also horrible turbobigots in other places too. This is very important.

I just take issue with painting all the users of a site that's designed to appeal to the most amount of people possible with the same broad, gross brush. It's disingenuous to call something "the Reddit community" when that encompasses everyone from Adam Savage to some dude in a trailer park.

Part of the problem is the setup of the site itself. I think you would agree that if there was some hypothetical website that forced every person to say the worst/most offensive thing they believe, that would not be a good website to read. My issue with reddit is that the upvote/downvote system suppresses the minority. As a result, oppression of minorities is amplified and anyone saying why that is wrong is suppressed. And then, the people who read the site subconsciously accept the bad opinions as "normal" while never being exposed to why they are bad, and it reinforces bad opinions. Also, I think "the Netflix community" is pretty lovely too. I think the reason people aren't complaining about the Netflix community isn't because they think it isn't bad, but rather that it's so irrelevant and quiet, that there's little reason to have an opinion about it at all. "I go to netflix for the comments" said no one ever
