Ive been on some kind of crazy win-streak all last night and this morning. Nothing but winning for Team Science. Being that last splatfest I did nothing but lose and my team still ended up winning, Science is doomed...

Yeah, I'm team art and I've been crushing it. Just made it to champion and have lost maybe two or three times, either to teams that could just put down more ink than us or teams that had like three inkstrikes at their disposal (one we had on the ropes but they popped off a strike at the last second that gave them the two percent they needed to win. )

I'm having fun with the mini-splatling now. I'm not even sure why I'm using it instead of a .52, but it has an edge over the aerospray and blaster jr. spam that is splatfests. I guess teams are like charger users. If they're on your side, you're lucky if they merely break even on kills and come in last on ink. On the other side, they're a golden god perched on high, smiting any soul unfortunate enough to stumble into their baleful gaze with unerring accuracy. Just... Just crushed. More then once I looked at the map and my while team was huddled in one area, painting over our own ink. Play better? Also, seriously try a weapon with the echolocator on it. It is easily the best special in turf war and will make the rest of your team better. Got up to +20 on my way up to Art King. I like the new map it gets hectic when you're playing against an even team. It has a lot of different approaches like Flounder Heights but the climbing is way easier.

I don't usually have much connection issues but I played one match last night that must have been real bad because people were literally walking through walls that or they are ghosts in which case rip im sorry

Team art checking in: I am totally crushing science's nuts. What's your hypothesis on that, nerds? I've decided the new map is pretty fun, if you rush to the middle and then treat it like a Roman gladiatorial match. Taste the side of my roller!

Meanwhile I've been winning for Team Tidy. I had a team that had a good run cleaning the other team's mess out of our turf. One match does come to mind - I managed to get to the upper area of the enemy team in Bluefin Depot, basically splatting inklings left and right with my trusty .52 gal. (That gun is drat good, especially now that they lowered the amount needed to ink to use Killer Wail.) But Turf War is a fickle game, so of course I died and my team mates were nowhere near stopping the onslaught, rather they stayed in the drat grates leading there. And we lost. Another reminder of never letting a kid do a squid's job.

Had about a 1/3rd win rate for team science for til I got halfway through Fiend. Then I picked up the Splatling, joined a good group, and went 20-0. Then connection errors ensued. So close to King...

You know those matches where your team mates are busy inking their base area while the bad guys are inking all the other sections of the map? And you're supposed to stop them all? I hate matches like that.

Made it to queen. Getting to queen from champ was a bit more of a slog compared to getting to champ in the first place, but I still won more than I lost. Capped it off with a round where I used the kelp splat charger for the first time in forever, my team won and I came second in points.

So Splattershot, just plain Splattershot is actually a pretty good and fun weapon. During Splatfest I managed to roll 3 swim speeds on a pair of boots with Power up. Combined with my grenade distance up + 3x run speed leather jacket, Im going to have a lot of fun once we're allowed to change our torso again.

So after playing with a bunch of you squids in the channel, I gotta say; Y'all are pretty good, but a lot of times I see people dying to things that could be avoided if you just used a better sense of general awareness. By that I mean knowing where your team is, what your teammates are doing, and what your best options are in a fight. Sometimes it's better to back up and wait for help or go support a teammate than trying to be Rambo and fight solo. I captured a few matches last night (Youtube Playlist) to better illustrate my point. Granted I still die to silly things every now and again but when I'm on point I'm on fire. Primary example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TrxVbIhOxmo But really sometimes it's the little stuff that makes all the difference. Like helping a teammate get up a wall, survive a Kraken, or cutting off someone trying to sneak to your spawn, every little bit of in-game awareness can make a huge difference. And then once you've got that down you can go back to Turf War and run over pubbies like a train. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_lZ4jylMJI

The current map set favors longer ranged weaponry... Lots of wide open spaces and elevated positions.

Orabilis posted:Art has population. I'm still not sure which is going to have win percentage. Art was crushing it early morning, now... I had basically a 75% win rate as science, and I'm not particularly good at the game. Though I have kind of gotten the hang of splatfests- if your team loses, quit and get another team. If your team wins keep playing. It's really easy to find a group to carry you eventually. Not that it's that hard as half the art teams were made up of people under level 10. In either case it makes it feel like science is dominating from my perspective. Orabilis posted:The current map set favors longer ranged weaponry... Lots of wide open spaces and elevated positions.

Yeah we want to get them happening more often, and the easiest way that will happen is if more people hang out on the IRC, since that's where most of the goon grouping happens.
