Solved this in 12 minutes. Felt good. White to play. I didn't check every variation so thankfully I was right because I had to read for a second time when str1fe showed me a different response.

yeah i normally play fast, just trying it out. i can see the attraction though, playing 3 games in the time it usually takes me to play one is pr sweet

Here's a terrible game where I got trashed http://eidogo.com/#9IkZXWhe Everything was terrible. I had no idea wtf to do in the opening, ran out of time quickly, followed him around the board and when he played 94 I completely collapsed - I was looking at Q4 which I thought was my only chance, but I still had my mouse on s3 which was my initial reaction and I ended up playing it somehow.

Riichi (I'm Xom on tenhou.net). I learned it a month ago, but unfortunately, it's now the off-season. Mahjong season is whenever there's a mahjong anime, of course. (I found a 2012–2013 Traditional Games mahjong thread.)

Riichi is amazing, the feeling of slamming down the tiles is almost akin to go, live.

what do you all think of that concept? my first thought was wow thats really cool i'd like to see the outcome of that game, but then i had some thoughts like 1. whats to prevent this from just being a game between the highest ranking players on each 'team'. people will see rank and just agree with whatever the highest ranked player chooses. 2. 1 day per move?? theres not going to be anything interesting to decide for a week or more. people will probably forget about it by then and involvement will drop off like the idea of crowd intelligence playing a game, though.

I love the idea. I'm with you about people likely agreeing with the highest ranked players, so it would've been cool if you didn't see the ranks, or if you didn't see which moves were voted on. Although that way you wouldn't get to see the motivating comments for the moves that people provide.

my only problem with the 1 day per move thing is if someone does a 3-3 invasion for example you're going to have to wait two weeks for the joseki to be over with no real decisions being made. a lot of people might stop checking in and just forget about the whole thing
