Brought it far away and left it there. Not the Buell, the old Yamaha triple. I hope the new owner has more fun with it than I did. I know I am loving that 18sqft space it used to occupy.

Did you get the latest 2015 version of the bulbs with the spacers you can use to optimise positioning in the light housing? I saw a vid with one of these bulbs in a basic round light bucket and shimming the bulb made the difference between patchy light distribution with a horrible cut off to a uniform swathe of light with a clear top edge.

Very tempted to order one and see how they go in the striple housing. I'm not sure how it'll go with heat dissipation though, as the housing is plastic and there would be no air movement in there.

Yeah, mine came with those spacers, but I haven't installed them yet. Are the striple's lights completely enclosed? The back of my bucket has a big hole for wiring, that's plenty enough. You can hear the wee fan when the bike is on.

Pretty much:

I've found a couple of posts from people who use them on their '13+ striples, so I guess I'd have seen something about overheating if it was a big issue.

It would be interesting to see what happens with the spacers on yours, ideally while pointed at a wall or something so you can get quite a good idea of what it does to the spread and cutoff.

Got it running. Details over in my thread but the TL;DR is that if you finish putting your carbs together while half loopy from fatigue and exposure to solvents, you might want to check your work in the morning before reinstalling them on the bike.

e: How many miles are you getting out of your DRZs before they implode? I'm at around 22kmi now. Should I buy a second one as a backup???

I have a friend who recently sold his 35k mile DRZ which was on the original bore. It was -1/+2 on the countershaft/rear sprocket, was poorly jetted for an FMF exhaust, and had the absolute poo poo beaten out of it. It was still going pretty strong except for a bad valve seal that was making it smoke like a motherfucker on hard engine braking.

I walked around the lot to see how it looks to an oncomer. LEDs are directional as hell, so unless you are driving at me head-on (and low to the ground), it doesn't seem to have that irritating shiny blinding quality like crappy HIDs or the ridiculous blueish projectors some new cars have (I'm looking at you, hyundai :argh:).

Also, bike is on the stand and pointing uphill, so the beam is way higher off the ground than normal.

Some PO had rested the bike on its side while warm.. so the plastic bashplate was melted on one side, and since I actually use it on gravel the old brittle plastic is getting torn up by rocks

As far as what actually happened:
Saturday night on my way to work my bike died on 101. My AAA coverage had lapsed, so I couldn't have them tow it. I pushed the bike off 101 and into a small neighborhood, where I made sure it was parked legally. Sunday morning I went out to the bike with a new battery and tried starting it up. No luck.

Monday morning, after I got off work (I am on the grave shift), I went to pick up the bike. When I arrived the bike was still there. The person who was supposed to meet me there with a pickup truck flaked out on me, so we agreed to come back that night to pick it up. 12 hours later we arrived and the motorcycle was missing. I called the police and filed a report with them. I have not yet claimed the bike with insurance, as I am making sure my bike wasn't towed instead.

If we have any lawyers here, let me know what exactly was fraudulent about this. I told the police exactly what happened and they didn't seem to have a problem with it. When I call my insurance they can make sure everything is kosher too. Hopefully they find my bike instead though, so I can fix and sell it.

I don't think this is fraud. Hilarious and dumb, yes. But not fraud. I will be curious to see what the insurance payout is on your bike, but it would be incredibly stupid to suggest to them that the engine was seized when you don't have any basis for knowing that's what happened (ex. you said the light went out like a dead battery which suggests, you know, a dead battery vs. a seized engine). My understanding is that you were riding and the bike stopped and you don't know what was wrong but suspected the battery was dead. Then you got a friend to help you haul it back so you could look at it not on the side of the highway. By the time you got back, the bike was gone.

You are not a mechanic (or you're the world's worst mechanic) and I do not think it is a good idea for you to speculate about what the problem was to the insurance company. They will ask you many questions which you should answer truthfully but don't be an idiot and say "well, one time my engine seized and this was sort of like that even though it was a little different and more like another problem so I think probably the engine on it seized."

Mind blown. You don't need AAA to get a tow, you can just call a tow company or get to a Uhaul and rent a truck for a couple hours. Hell it's a DRZ, take the front wheel off and stuff it in the back seat. I cannot fathom just leaving my bike somewhere for 2 days with the expectation that it won't go away.

It's a DRZ, and a broken one at that. I think everything worked out for the best here.

I skipped work last week when my VFR broke down.
Couldn't get a tow (that's a whole long involved story I won't tell now) so, I waited until my mom was available and had her bring my truck and towed it home myself. So I wasted 6 hours of PTO sitting at a Jiffy Lube, but I still have my bike.
