CelticPredator posted:The improv isn't even the joke. The joke is someone recorded a bunch of nonsense and out of that came some animation to accompany it. Like, Octopus Man is Roiland laughing his rear end off at nothing and the actual animation has jack poo poo all to do with what he's saying. The contrast owns. Yeah and literally anyone could do this and get the same result. It's just like Shmorky animating Lowtax's daughter's ramblings. It's funny and cute the first time, but you can't just keep doing it and expect them to keep being comedy gold (Shmorky and Lowtax ended up doing like 10 of those). I know this is only the show's second time doing it, but it seems pretty obvious that they didn't really want to do it and the quality suffered.

i mean it's really not hard to criticize this episode, just say you thought it wasn't funny or clever, it's this horseshit argument from "objectivity" with the dumb arguments like "oh it's not original" or "it's lazy and slipshod" that are dumb, ignoring how difficult it is to do even moderately good improv or that all shows everywhere iterate on plot conceits over time

I said before I didn't really like the episode that much, and I stand by that. But I think I love the Michael and Pichael skit. I was thinking about it during class today and I almost burst out laughing. The whole concept is just so great. Oh, we're have conjoined twins? Okay we'll name one of them Michael and the other one...I dunno, gently caress it just call the other one Pichael.

On the website issue (personalspaceshow.com)... ... several years back, one of the nighttime talk shows did a throwaway joke. I think it was Conan O'Brien. ... ... OK, I looked it up. Yeah, it was just a joke, and he said "horny manatee dot com," and the S&P people said that they had to buy the domain, which shocked Conan. After that, hornymanatee.com was an actual website with silly crap that the show's producers put on there. You can still see it if you check out the archived versions on the Wayback machine. So, yeah, they had to buy it.

sweetmercifulcrap posted:I didn't particularly care for Rixty Minutes - I feel like anyone could make up random poo poo and then let the animators extract some humor out of whatever you came up with. In this one the segments were even more forced, and pointing out that you didn't really want to do it, making that obvious, and then pointing out that most of them lazily ended in a violent punchline doesn't automatically make it more enjoyable to watch. Thankfully the B story made the episode worth watching, though just barely. A couple segments were okay. I was not looking forward to this one and I really hope they don't do another one. The violent punchlines in the first half were there to set up Morty's comments-section rant about how other people's feelings aren't his problem, and then Rick's swift putdown of the kind of people who hold that opinion.

yes, people who pretend that their opinions are rooted in "objective" criticism while illustrating how little they actually know about what they're talkign about are the definition of smug, yes, good show, you understand the point i am making again, i'm not saying the people who dislike this episode are dumb for not liking it, i'm not super high on it either (mostly because of how i view the original), I'm just making the point that your criticisms should be rooted in subjectivity, since that's what they are, over overt attempts to be "objective" while not actually knowing what the gently caress you're talking about

Wasn't a really big fan of this week's episode. None of the jokes really landed for me (except for "how did I get here?"). It's a little maddening because I don't really feel like anything about it was really bad, but I can't help compare it to Rixty Minutes which was nothing short of amazing.
