Jedit posted:I thought I had mentioned The Highwayman. I know I had it in a draft post at one point - it ended the Super Vehicle era that Knight Rider started. I've been sort of wondering if some of it is maybe the result of the post 55mph speed limit and pair of fuel crises of the late 70s or something and people really wanted some fuel-burning, high-action, sexy high-speed escapism on their TV, cartoons and movies for a few years with cool super vehicles for about a decade. A whole lot of things seemed to showcase or be built around productions where the vehicles are so heavily featured during that time: Boats, planes, helicopters, cars, motorcycles.

There was a late 90s show about a vehicle. A show so lovely it doesn't even have a Wikipedia entry. 18 Wheels of Justice https://youtu.be/YaaT0gu8Fj4 And no thunder is almost certainly about the SS

As the intro credits roll, the montage shows the huge vehicles smashing bad guys, using jet thrusters to fly over whatever obstacles they can't just drive straight through, and just being badass. Actual episode: A guy walks through a bunch of hallways and bumps into a locked door

I realize this is a parody of the car shows being discussed, but I feel it is my duty whenever Talking Car Shows are mentioned to bring up Heat Vision and Jack, starring Jack Black with Owen Wilson as Heat Vision, his sentient motorcycle, and Ron Silver as himself (the bad guy): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6lWgXDOAJ5s EDIT: ...Or it could dislike being embedded. The Asylum should really start making cheesy TV shows as well as their cheesy movies. They make crap - but crap that sells and always makes a profit. But I do see the inevitable "Ow my balls!" becoming a reality.

One thing I have noticed as I get older - its the reliance on Google and other search engines as a knowledge resource. I am extremely guilty of this. Tonight, a friend was asking me over skype on how to take nightscape and star photos and instead of using my memory and prior skills as a professional photographer for many years to actually process how I take those photos, I resorted to google. I feel ashamed, but its a reality we are all getting used to. I remember when I was doing my university degree and before that, military technical certifications, you actually studied poo poo and commited to memory. And here I am now just taking the easy way out! My memory is obsolete technology. (disclaimer - I also actually do have real memory issues)

I agree, but you have it backwards. I'm not walking up to people and telling them things, it's someone else asking me a question and googling to see if my response is correct...in which case why didn't you just google it in the first place and not waste my time? Bonus is when your answer isn't spergy enough levels of correct, getting talked down to by a fishmech who only knows what wikipedia told them.

The problem isn't blindly trusting, it's rejecting the established thought for no reason and then blindly latching on to the first thing they see some random other person say, which makes no sense at all. Edit: That doesn't invalidate what you said but I have difficulty getting my head around that. Also, some conspiracy types have caught on to the fact that scientists cite things, so they started citing other wingnuts to make their scrawlings look more valid.
